On March 1, Virginia’s secretary of education, Aimee Guidera, issued a letter to the presidents and board members of the state’s public colleges and universities directing them to investigate their schools’ admissions, hiring and other practices and end racial preferences. Her letter reinforces Trump administration policies targeting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and expunging terms it deems offensive from federal documents, reports and databases.
