Gerry Visco’s Biography

Gerry Visco has blonde hair and blue eyes and does all her shopping at thrift shops. She is also a performer, writer, photographer, and nightlife personality. She has performed in numerous films and live productions, such as "FCKNLZ on Broadway" at the Museum of Arts and Design, Pussy Faggot, Vandam, the R Bar, Dixon Place, Theater for the New City, Cameo Gallery, The Wild Project, the Creative Time Gala, Envoy Gallery, The Slipper Room, the Bowery Electric, Chantal’s House of Shame in Berlin, on television in "Oddities," numerous cool music videos and in several full-length feature films, including Woody Allen’s “Stardust Memories," Abel Ferrara’s recent “4.44 Last Day on Earth,” and in the forthcoming "Hellaware." Visco currently writes for online art magazine Hyperallergic and Antitwink. She has written hundreds of articles which have appeared in publications including New York Press, Out Magazine, The New York Sun, Edge Media, The Villager, Beyond Race, Fit Yoga, Our Town, West Side Spirit, the Chelsea Clinton News, New York Blade, Gay City News, Spread Magazine, Columbia Review, and the Adobe Anthology. Her photography has appeared in New York Magazine, The Village Voice, One (art journal in Bulgaria), The Daily News, and Gawker and has been shown at the Munch Gallery, Envoy Enterprises, Salon No. 15, Artflux, and Chelsea Eye Gallery in NYC, and Gallery U in Montclair, NJ and Detroit, Michigan, and Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The Village Voice named her Bravest Nightlife Photographer of 2010 and she was nominated for a Glam Award as best nightlife writer in 2010 and 2011. Gerry holds a BA in Literature, an MFA in Writing, and an MS in Journalism from Columbia University and is a certified yoga teacher who trained at the the Iyengar Institute of New York. She is currently writing a tell-all memoir called "Mojo Mama," about her colorful life as muse, fag hag, renegade, and rent girl, in the gritty glamorous world of New York City during the 1970s and 1980s. She lives on the Upper East Side, has a day job and barely sleeps.
