What was your first job as a journalist?
I started off by reviewing Youtube videos on Facebook, then started my blog, then contacted a selection of websites.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
When I was about 8 years old :)
How is social media changing news?
I think it's making people think things can come easier, and more instantaneously. However, it's also making good stories easier to find.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Hard work, a lot of hours, but pure delight in finding stories and spreading them to the world.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I don't really mind, it's more about what I'm covering and why.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Good old pen and paper to start, then Word, maybe Wordpress for my own stuff, and custom CMSs sometimes.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook, for better or for worse.
Who do you wish followed you?
Maybe more bands and artists I admire, but I'm working on it!
Why did you become a journalist?
To inspire others to become as inspired as I am.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I've written pieces, about music, throughout different stages in my life. I learnt to write seriously about music during my Masters course.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Lots of stories, but definitely when I've been able to go in-depth, dig deep with an interview, and have been able to dictate what I am doing
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
First and foremost, you can do it. It takes a lot though. A lot of drive, determination, sacrifices and goodwill. An idea and motivation are notFreelance Journalistenough. If you are anything like me, you’ll ALWAYS be thinking about the business. But, that fact alone does drive you on, gives you more ideas, and ultimately makes you money. Discipline is as important as ideas and hard work
