The Best Thriller Books of 2026
We love a good plot-twist as much as the next person, but it can be difficult to find a new, well-written thriller that will genuinely keep a reader rapt from the first page to the last. Thrillers rarely attract the attention of newspaper book critics, so even very good novels can fly under the radar.
Po pravdě
Po pravdě… všichni lžou. Lucy Harperová je talentová spisovatelka a autorka několika bestsellerů, díky kterým získala slávu, peníze i miliony fanoušků. Kromě toho má Dana – zneuznaného a žárlivého manžela, jehož pokusy stát se spisovatelem nedopadly valně. Teď Dan zmizel, a navíc to není poprvé, kdy se ztratil někdo z Lucyina okolí. Před třiceti lety zmizel i její bráška Teddy a nikdy ho nenašli. Lucy, jediná svědkyně, si o tom, co se stalo, bezradně vymýšlela jeden příběh za druhým.

Remembering an Odd, Artful 'Requiem for the Detective Novel'
(contains spoilers) In 1950, renowned Swiss playwright and essayist Friedrich Dürrenmatt turned to writing crime novels because he was in need of money. Dürrenmatt’s decision was a smart one. His first Inspector Barlach novel earned him an advance so high that his wife suspected he had stolen the money, and the second kept the royalties coming in. Dürrenmatt referred to the writing of these novels as “Brotarbeit.” Bread and butter work.

Two boys are murdered, a man was imprisoned then everyone tried to get on with their lives as best they could. Twenty years later another body turns up... Was the wrong person convicted? The majority of the narrative is told in a podcast format which I'd never come across before, and I didn't really take to it.
