State elections board tables complaint review involving Pitt County board member

The State Board of Elections has tabled its consideration of a complaint filed against a Pitt County Board of Elections member until later this month. The board wants to simultaneously review the complaint three Republican members of the Pitt board filed against Etsil Mason, a Democrat and former chairwoman of the board, and the complaint she filed against Neal Driver, the current Republican board chairman. The state board voted June 24 to take up the matter during its July 16 meeting.

NCDOT prepping gear for 2026 hurricane season

Even though forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are predicting a below-normal season in the Atlantic Ocean, that is still equal to 8-14 named storms with 3-6 forecast to become hurricanes and 1-3 to be major hurricanes, officials said.

City exempt from sidewalk rule as it makes Wildwood improvements

The Greenville Board of Adjustment has exempted the city from a requirement to build a sidewalk along Old Pactolus Road when it makes improvements to adjacent Wildwood Park. The city plans to build a driveway from Old Pactolus to lakes on the west side of the park, which is divided from the park's east side by U.S. 264/Martin Luther King Jr. Highway.
