Letting the House Lead
For a few years now, there has been a quiet shift in the way we celebrate life’s biggest moments. Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings are increasingly spent not in hotels or restaurants, but in specially rented houses where we cook together, linger over breakfast, head out for long walks, and stay up talking long after midnight. The house has become every bit as important as the occasion. The best holiday homes understand this instinctively.
Design Partnership
There’s a particular moment in every renovation when a house reveals what it wants to become. Not what the architect imagines or what the builder proposes. Not even what the owners have pinned to their mood boards. But what the building itself has been quietly waiting for all along. At the property we visit in Reigate, that moment arrives the second you step through the front door. Your eye is drawn through the house towards a wall of glass and a garden beyond. Light spills through the interior.
Slow Grown - Priceless Magazines
We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” – Winston Churchill. It’s a line often used to describe grand civic architecture, but it feels just as true, perhaps more so, when talking about our home. Because the spaces we live in don’t simply shelter us; they influence how we feel, how we move, even how we see the world. We’re often told we are judged by the company we keep. But perhaps we are also quietly shaped by the spaces we keep.
Welcome Home - Priceless Magazines
Every home has a story. Sometimes a house is steeped in history, where every brick and beam has borne witness to the generations who have lived there before. Others are a canvas upon which owners imprint their own distinctive style, often pouring heart and soul into every detail. While there are chapters in Merryweather’s story that speak to both of these ideas, the real story behind this beautiful family home is one of teamwork, trust and collaboration.
Vintage genes - Priceless Magazines
DNA tests have become an increasingly popular Christmas gift for those eager to find out if they have a bit of Viking blood, some Irish ancestry, or a distant connection to some exotic location. The wonderful BBC Sounds series The Gift presents the other side of these tests and their often-unintended consequences: sisters who turned out to be mothers; friends who turned out to be relatives; and new brothers and sisters who turned up, all around the world.
A home of light, life & joy
There are houses you step into and instantly sense the spirit of the people who live there. Homes that reflect not just style, but character, not just design, but story. Peter and Sarah’s home, built on the site of a derelict turkey farm near Maidstone, is one such place. It is a house full of light, fun, travel and family. Right from the driveway, you know you’re about to encounter something special.
A Second Life - Priceless Magazines
The original barn, from which this warm and welcoming family home has emerged, dates from around 1840. But this isn’t just a barn conversion – certainly not in the traditional sense. It’s the story of a second life. An exciting new chapter in the history of the property, and in the life of its owners Paul and Shelagh Dunford. Like many recently retired couples, Paul and Shelagh wanted two things. Firstly, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.
Natural light - Priceless Magazines
Wealden Times was borne from a desire to celebrate and share the many wonderful things that we love about this community of ours. A community in part defined by geography but one more broadly connected by shared values and an appreciation of nature, design, creativity, collaboration and craftsmanship. Draw a Venn diagram of these characteristics and Alie Carter, her interior design philosophy, and her delightful home would sit right in the middle. She is the epitome of our purpose.
Ahead of the curve
It started about 18 months ago. First there were the Instagram posts from friends drinking Champagne in the sunshine, on the Harbour Arm. Shortly followed by different WhatsApp groups, full of pictures and messages enthusing about the restaurants, independent retailers, and how easy it is to get there by train. Then the invites began: “you must come with us to Folkestone, it’s such a cool place these days”. Clearly something was happening down there.
Statement following government announcement on child sexual exploitation
Councillor Shah said: "We welcome this announcement and indeed any action that the government takes to establish genuinely survivor-led inquiries into historical sexual abuse. "Survivors must be at the heart of any inquiry into these horrendous failings. Oldham’s survivors can be confident that by involving someone of the stature of Tom Crowther KC they will have a voice and a stake in our inquiry.
Good Fortune - Priceless Magazines
Every house has a story to tell. A history woven within its walls, by those who have visited or called it home. King Charles III, Nelson Mandela, and a renowned 19th century botanist and explorer are just three of the characters in the tale of Fortune House, Cranleigh. Built by his grandson, this elegant, red-bricked, Victorian family home, was named after Robert Fortune.
Council Leader Blog: Protecting vital public services
In 2012, I entered politics to make a difference. Driven by a passion to get things done, I want to provide new opportunities, to support and enhance services, to help ‘level the playing field’ for residents and local businesses, and to see life get better here in my hometown. These ambitions still burn in me, and they are at the heart of the Labour administration I lead in the Town Hall today. But throughout my time as a councillor, I have only known cuts to Oldham’s budget.
The Case for a Canadian Standardized High School Test

To his enemies he was a ruthless ideologue whose “Common Sense Revolution” ignored the weak and punished the poor.
Navigating a polarized Parliament: Liberals at a crossroads this fall
With Parliament back this week, the Canadian political landscape remains anchored in familiar policy challenges since its adjournment in June. Leading the political agenda are economic matters, namely affordability concerns and the rising cost of living—persistent challenges that will ultimately demand a substantial overhaul in the government's response.

208 candidates are running in total across the borough’s 20 wards, with every seat set to be contested in the council’s first ‘All-out’ local election since 2004. 47 candidates are also running in total across both the Shaw and Crompton, and Saddleworth Parishes. This information comes in with just over a week to go until the deadline for voter registration which closes at midnight on Monday 17 April.
LEE: Obstruction of the Justices, or why we need the notwithstanding clause
When Ontario Premier Doug Ford vowed to use the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom’s notwithstanding clause to keep his province’s schools open last fall, Liberal MP Adam van Koeverden called the move “undemocratic.” While a common sentiment among Canada’s governing elites, academia and various activist groups, it’s also dead wrong. When invoked, the notwithstanding clause involves elected representatives overriding a decision made by unelected judges. That's democracy in action.
Obstruction of the Justices: Why We Need the Notwithstanding Clause More than Ever
In 2007, however, the Court suddenly changed its mind and invented a right under s. 2(d) to engage in collective bargaining. Eight years later, the Court went much further. At the time, Saskatchewan was suffering through a lengthy and debilitating strike by essential workers. Nurses, snow-plow operators and prison workers walked off the job. The strike meant surgeries cancelled, those near death denied admission to palliative care, and children’s health care services significantly reduced.
Building Your Salesforce Work Experience? 3 Tips for Your Career Path
If you’re diligently applying for jobs, but you’re not hearing back from employers, you’re more than likely hitting the Trust Gap. The Trust Gap is what some call the lack of confidence an employer has in an applicant’s ability to do the job. This lack of trust is why employers ask for relevant experience. They prefer explicit proof that you have already successfully done what you say you can do. So how do you bridge this gap and build your Salesforce work experience?

So you still want to Salesforce volunteer at a nonprofit?
Photo by Basil Samuel Lade on Unsplash Note: This article was originally posted on UnHandledSunshine and has been re-posted here for continuity. Before the proverbial ink dried on the first article on why you shouldn’t Salesforce volunteer at a nonprofit, I could already sense the exceptions the community would raise that I didn’t have the time to address. The Salesforce Trailblazer Community, after all, is made up of passionate tech nerds who have a keen eye in finding exceptions to things.
Government must obey court orders even if invalid, Supreme Court holds
The Supreme Court has this morning handed down judgment in R (Majera) (formerly SM Rwanda) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2021] UKSC 46. The appeal, as Lord Reed states in his opening sentence, raised a “question of constitutional importance”. That question was whether the government (or anyone else) can lawfully act in a manner inconsistent with a defective order of a court or tribunal without first having that order set aside or varied.
