Are UK’s tech websites practicing what they preach when it comes to AI readability?
Home Technology & Industry AI By Graham Smith, Fractional Marketing Director by SVJ Thought Leader October 14, 2026 in AI, Consumer Tech, Enterprise Tech, SaaS, Technology & Industry 0 The changing search landscape For decades, B2B tech companies have optimised their websites to appeal exclusively for traditional search engines. However, decision-makers are shifting toward AI-driven tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, to research, evaluate solutions and shortlist software vendors.

Mayor's Minute: October 2026
The financial strength you don’t see: As we begin Mountain Brook’s 2027 fiscal year, our community is in excellent financial health. While worth celebrating, it’s also worth taking a moment to ‘nerd out’ with me about one of the least discussed and most important strengths of our city: pre-funded municipal depreciation. Lloyd Shelton, City Councilor and finance committee liaison, recently spoke about our depreciation strategy at the State of the City luncheon.
Emergency department referral and short-term death after outpatient hyperkalemia: a population-based study
Hyperkalemia, or an elevated blood potassium level, is a common clinical finding that is exacerbated by some medications and disorders, such as kidney disease, that impair potassium excretion.
Mayor's Minute: September 2026
One of my favorite opportunities as mayor is speaking with neighborhood groups, civic organizations and community clubs throughout Mountain Brook. During nearly every presentation, there is one slide that consistently generates the most questions (and the most surprised looks). It’s the slide highlighting the many free (and low-cost) services our city offers that many residents simply don’t know exist. Your city government provides much more than roads, parks and public safety.
Lloyd Williams’s retrotech 1956 Holden FJ ute
First published in the June 2005 issue of Street Machine Zack Williams doesn’t know it, but the four-year-old’s one lucky little dude. When he blows out the candles at his 21st birthday bash, his dad, Lloyd, will hand over the keys to one cool ute. Mind you, when he gets the FJ it’ll have plenty of kays on the clock — Lloyd and wife Kimberley regularly drive it, and plan to keep on driving it.
Mayor's Minute: August 2026
One of the greatest privileges of serving as your mayor is working alongside five dedicated City Council members who care deeply about Mountain Brook. While many of the issues we consider are straightforward, others require months, or even years, of thoughtful discussion, research and public input before a decision can responsibly be made. Our recently adopted Home Occupation Ordinance is one of those issues.
Mayor's Minute: July 2026
For generations, the O’Neal Library has been one of the true hearts of Mountain Brook; it’s a place where children discover the joy of reading, neighbors gather, students study and lifelong learning flourishes. Today, I am thrilled to share that an exciting new chapter is beginning for this beloved institution. Work has officially begun on an extraordinary $8 million renovation of the O’Neal Library.
NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman satellite arrival @ KSC
After an eight-day trip from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland via the Atlantic Ocean with an urgent stop along the way to add additional air conditioning units to maintain a temperature of no more than 72-degree F, the Pegasus Barge carrying the Nancy Grace Roman satellite in its special container.
Mayor's Minute: June 2026
As mayor of Mountain Brook, I’m often asked what’s missing from Shades Creek Parkway these days. The answer is simple: the steady presence of roadside panhandling and loitering that, for a time, had become a daily fixture, particularly near the U.S. 280 interchange. For many residents, that activity had become so common it almost faded into the background. But it raised growing concerns.
Demigod review (2009)
Demigod review - PC Gamer issue #201 (UK, June 2009) From the archives: The review below appears as originally written, with only minor changes in formatting and presentation. By Graham Smith Demigod is gloriously bombastic, the introductory cutscene intoning the slight backstory in its best, booming Christopher Lee voice. One of the gods has been destroyed after leaking company secrets.

Not Michelin, Not Bridgestone – This Is The Best Truck Tire Brand By Customer Satisfaction When truck and SUV owners go shopping for new tires, they tend to turn toward bestsellers like Michelin or Bridgestone. These are the big brand names …
CRS-34 Heads to the International Space Station
Cape Canaveral S.F.S., FL. – Liftoff! After two delays for weather, the CRS-34 mission took to the mostly clear Florida skies. Launching from Launch Complex 40, the Falcon 9 rose majestically towards a rendezvous with the International Space Station. Image Credit: Michael Seeley - We Report Space The 6:05 PM EDT launch window was instantaneous with no wiggle room to wait out any technical or weather issues and this time everything came together.
The Hero Priest of the Titanic
As the lights of the RMS Titanic flickered and the great ship tilted toward the freezing Atlantic, panic spread across its decks. Wealth and status suddenly meant nothing. Lifeboats were few. Time was running out. In the chaos, one figure moved calmly against the tide—not toward safety but toward the frightened, the poor, and the forgotten. That man was Fr. Thomas Byles, a Catholic priest who chose to remain behind. While others searched desperately for a way to live, Fr. Byles knelt to pray.
The Sims 3 review (2009)
Graham Smith The Sims 3 review - PC Gamer issue #202 (UK, July 2009) My wedding was a disaster, beginning when one of the guests died during the party. We weren't close, but witnessing his ghost prompted a recurring wish to see more. Soon I was wandering the catacombs beneath the graveyard, getting emotionally scarred by zombie bears and emerging, smeared with dirt, in only my underpants. To make matters worse, I misunderstood the purpose of a 'Wedding Party'.
Mayor's Minute: May 2026
In Mountain Brook, there’s an orange-shirted “army” of 43 people working quietly behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, to keep our city running smoothly. You may not always see them, but their work touches nearly every part of daily life here. The flower pots that brighten our villages? They’re watered at 4 a.m. each morning. Fallen trees after a storm? Cleared quickly so residents can get where they need to go.

Kennedy Space Center, FL. – This morning, April 29, 2026 a SpaceX Falcon Heavy lit its 27 engines at the opening of the window taking the ViaSat-3 F3 satellite towards orbit. Delayed from April 27 due to weather, the Falcon Heavy is making its first appearance since October 2024 and first appearance of 2026, the Falcon Heavy launched from Launch Complex 39-A at 10:13 AM on an easterly trajectory.
Mirror's Edge review (2009)
Mirror's Edge review - PC Gamer issue #197 (UK, February 2009) The early levels of Mirror's Edge are the ones that best communicate the joys of the game, because they're the ones that best deliver the free-running dream. That is: you, in an urban environment, gracefully inventing your own path from point Here to point Over There.

Not Samsung, Not Whirlpool: This Washer Brand Ranks The Highest For Customer Satisfaction As fun as it can be to shop for a washing machine, we're assuming that nobody really wants to be in the market for a new one. After all, if you are, …
Mayor's Minute: April 2026
There is something magical about seeing your hometown on the big screen. The familiar curve of a street, the warmth of a neighborhood storefront, the character of a historic home — all transformed into the backdrop of a story shared with audiences around the world. Maybe you have already witnessed film crews in our local villages! Mountain Brook has a meaningful opportunity to help write the next chapter in Alabama’s growing film industry.
Mick Mancini’s 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber
First published in Street Machine’s Australia’s Toughest Fords #2, 2004 Building model cars is no substitute for the real thing, but family commitments applied the hand brake to Mick Mancini’s hot car follies and prevented him from having any real toys for many years. This was bloody hard considering he grew up driving a string of gun streeters. So he turned to scale models as a way of ‘owning’ his dream drives.
From Brisbane to Madagascar: Life-changing surgery at sea
Brisbane ophthalmologist Dr Graham Hay-Smith shares his experience aboard the Africa Mercy in Madagascar, highlighting the transformative impact of cataract surgery and the importance of volunteering. I was recently privileged to leave my comfortable practice in Brisbane and spend a couple of weeks aboard the Africa Mercy in Madagascar. Madagascar is one of the world’s poorest countries, with extremely limited healthcare.
Mayor's Minute: March 2026
From my first day of matriculation at Washington and Lee University, one expectation was made immediately and unmistakably clear: You speak. You greet one another. You acknowledge the humanity of the person passing you on the Colonnade or along your campus path. A nod of the head, a “good morning,” a quick “hey.” It was neither optional nor performative. It was an imperative. At first, it felt awkward.
Attack in Iran
The backstory: Today's announcement came after word of Hegseth's plans to shun Scouting sparked weeks of backlash. In a meeting with Scouting officials in January, Hegseth had demanded that the organization change its name back to Boy Scouts and remove some 200,000 young girls from its membership. A week after the Pentagon meeting, Scouting officials sent a letter to Hegseth outlining proposed concessions.
Big Bear's bald eagles
What's next: The recommendations now go to the City Council. History: The commission has been meeting for six months to take input from the public and to consider charter changes. It was created in the wake of the 2022 City Hall tapes scandal, where members of the council were heard on audio discussing how to hold onto power. The conversation was laced with crude and racist remarks, triggering calls for resignation and reforms.
