Is a History of Gestational Diabetes Associated With Long‐Term Mental Health?-Findings From the GEMS 5‐Year Follow Up Study
1 Introduction Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) refers to glucose concentrations above normal but below that diagnostic of overt diabetes and first detected in pregnancy (World Health Organization 2016). According to estimates from the International Diabetes Federation, GDM affects approximately one in seven pregnant women (Wang et al. 2022), making it the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy. In addition to short-term complications such as gestational hypertension (Joffe et al.
Time Trends and Predictors of Gout Remission Over 6 Years
INTRODUCTION Gout is a chronic rheumatic disease of monosodium urate crystal deposition in the joints, tendons, and other tissues, resulting from sustained elevation of serum urate levels.

Baseline Dual‐Energy Computed Tomography Urate Volume Predicts Fulfillment of Gout Remission After Two Years of Urate‐Lowering Therapy
INTRODUCTION Gout is a chronic disease that typically presents with intermittent flares of inflammatory arthritis. Chronic gouty arthritis, tophi, and structural joint damage also occur in some people with gout. Dissolution of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals through the lowering of serum urate levels is the key long-term management strategy.

Airflow limitation and mortality during cancer screening in the National Lung Screening Trial: why quantifying airflow limitation matters
Discussion In this analysis of the ACRIN arm of the NLST, including 18 463 high-risk subjects, we have examined the effect of underlying airflow limitation on outcomes from LC screening. Although airflow limitation is associated with an increased risk of LC,22 in this study having severe airflow limitation (GOLD 3–4) was associated with no apparent benefit from CT-based LC screening.
Changes in tophus composition during urate‐lowering therapy: a dual energy CT study
Abstract Objective The gouty tophus is an organized structure composed of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals and chronic inflammatory soft tissue. This dual energy CT (DECT) study aimed to determine whether the composition of the tophus changes during urate-lowering therapy. Methods Serial DECT scans from 32 people with gout were obtained over two years of allopurinol therapy, dose-escalated to serum urate <0.36mmol/L.
Distributions of baseline categorical variables were different from the expected distributions in randomized trials with integrity concerns
Comparing observed and expected distributions of baseline continuous variables in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) can be used to assess publication integrity. We explored whether baseline categorical variables could also be used. The observed and expected (binomial) distribution of all baseline categorical variables were compared in four sets of RCTs: two controls, and two with publication integrity concerns. We also compared baseline calculated and reported p-values.

Full article: A randomized trial alerting authors, with or without coauthors or editors, that research they cited in systematic reviews and guidelines has been retracted
Themes identified in e-mail replies Contact authors from four citing publications asked us for advice as to what they should do. In another four cases the contact author already knew of retractions relating to their publication, but had not provided any update in public. For 12 citing publications correspondents thought that there was no or minimal impact, so did not plan to alert readers.
Vitamin D and acute respiratory infection: secondary analysis of a previous randomised controlled trial and updated meta-analyses
Abstract Background Recent meta-analyses concluded that vitamin D supplementation can prevent acute respiratory infection (ARI). However, the findings were heavily influenced by results from two arms of a six-arm cluster-randomised trial that were analysed without accounting for the cluster trial design. We have used publicly available data to provide results from the remaining four unpublished trial arms and to reanalyse the meta-analyses, accounting for the cluster trial design.

Assessing and Raising Concerns About Duplicate Publication, Authorship Transgressions and Data Errors in a Body of Preclinical Research
Abstract Authorship transgressions, duplicate data reporting and reporting/data errors compromise the integrity of biomedical publications. Using a standardized template, we raised concerns with journals about each of these characteristics in 33 pairs of publications originating from 15 preclinical (animal) trials reported by a group of researchers.
