Bootleggers, Baptists, and the Laws We Struggle to Fix | Jones
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... I spent nearly two decades teaching economics before I ever ran for office, and if that training left me with one habit I cannot shake, it is this: I judge a policy by what it produces, not by what its authors meant for it to produce. Intentions are cheap. Outcomes are the only honest ledger. […] Already have an account? Log In This article is only available to subscribers
What “Pro-Growth” Actually Means | Jones
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... I have been called not pro-growth by some in the county. Sometimes by people whose definition of pro-growth I do not share, and sometimes by people raising fair questions I intend to take seriously rather than wave off. Either way, before I can answer the charge, I think the term itself warrants scrutiny, because I […] Already have an account? Log In This article is only available to subscribers
My Case for Tehama County | Jones
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... I made a deliberate decision when I took office: spend the first year listening more than talking. I sat in budget hearings before I tried to change one line of the budget. I sat with department heads one-on-one before I asked them to sit with each other. I went to NoRTEC, 3CORE, and local economic […] Already have an account Log In This article is only available to subscribers

JONES: Pro Sports Have Gone Woke. It’s Time For Conservatives To Take Them Back
First things first: I love sports. Always have. It would take a supercomputer to calculate the amount of time I’ve spent watching and attending games. Not to mention the nauseating amount of money I’ve spent on tickets, apparel, and $15 stadium beers. And judging from the number of people I see lining up to blow similar amounts of money, I’m not alone. If there’s one thing Americans love, it’s sports.
LaSalle Tigers Fall During Slugfest
The LaSalle Tigers fell at home last Friday night 36-34 to the Lakeview Gators, however, the slugfest that took place at Tiger Stadium is what I consider to be one of the best high school football games that I have seen in a long time. This game wasn’t about flashy offense or long passes, this game was a war in the trenches. The LaSalle Tigers used a huge offensive line and the running power of… Premium Content is available to subscribers only.
JONES: 3 Reasons Men Dream Of Ancient Rome

One of the more popular videos has over five million views and the trend has inspired countless other women to ask the men in their lives how often they ponder the greatness of Rome.

JONES: Did the Biden Administration Play Politics With The Ohio Train Disaster?
Something stinks in East Palestine, Ohio, and it’s not the scores of belly-up fish littering the local creeks. JONES: Leftists’ Sexualization Of Children Is No Surprise - They’ve Been Writing About It For 60 Years
We may finally be approaching the final battlefield in America’s long-waged culture war: our children. It’s hard to imagine, after all, anything more worth fighting for than the fate of future generations. Hence the recent pushback against the left’s attempts to sexualize America’s most innocent demographic.
Forecasting Success
NEWS / FEATURES September 9, 2022 How weather affects the coming vintage By Dr. Greg Jones Were your tomatoes late this year? You’re not alone; many crops in Oregon are, including winegrapes. After a relatively warm, dry winter, April revisited the state’s February-like weather and ushered in one of our cooler, wetter springs. However, the plentiful rains during April through mid-June helped reduce drought conditions for the western portion of Oregon along with ample soil moisture for crops.
Fan Shot: Updated Look At Mets Trading Kelenic
The Cano Trade Kicks Off The Lid Of The Coffin By Greg Jones Nothing evokes a third rail response in the Mets blogosphere more than a comment that perhaps the Cano trade is aging better than its initial reviews as the worst trade in Mets history, apologies to Jim Fregosi. But, lets review the nuts and bolts of this mega-deal.
BMI not reflecting childhood obesity levels in ethnic minorities
Childhood obesity levels are highest in UK South Asian children, according to new research that completely changes the current understanding of the link between ethnicity and weight status in young people. The study, published in the International Journal of Obesity, shows that Body Mass Index (BMI) – the most widely-used measure of obesity – has painted a false picture of childhood obesity levels in different ethnic groups in the UK.
Practice What You Preach Via @dailycaller
Despite a nasty primary season, the Republicans’ drumming of the Democrats in November seemed to somewhat reunify the party. The honeymoon was short-lived, however, as that unity crumbled like coffee cake when Republicans were forced to withdraw their first attempt at an Obamacare replacement. The American Health Care Act, as they so creatively labeled it, proved unpopular across the political spectrum.
Matt Bisceglia Joins the Sidi Family of Riders
Sidi has welcomed Pro Supercross / Motocross racer Matt Bisceglia to the family. Matt has been a champion on a motorcycle for years. The Invertebrate Candidate Via @dailycaller
As recent events so clearly demonstrate, Hillary Clinton is a terrible Presidential candidate, and probably a terrible person. From her secret email server to her “foundation” to the rigged Democratic primary, her corruption record rivals that of any modern Democrat—no small accomplishment given the level of competition.
The Man Who Sold The World
The Democratic National Convention was supposed to be Hillary Clinton’s moment of a lifetime. After all, her coronation will mark the first time a woman has been nominated for President by a major political party (and the first person, man or woman, nominated under multiple federal investigations). But what should have been a lengthy celebration for the party faithful in Philly has been overshadowed by a tragedy of enormous proportions; specifically, the death of one man’s dignity.
Five Things Trump Must Do To Heal The Wounds

Title chase begins anew for Saint Francis
With the kind of season the Saint Francis football team had in 2015 and the amount of talent returning, complacency wouldn’t have been out of the question during spring football. But Cougars coach Kevin Donley didn’t see much evidence of that over the last three weeks of spring practices that wrap up today with the spring game at D’Arcy Stadium. The hunger from a team that came within one win of playing in the NAIA national championship game was always there.
Sister act will stick
Sisters Abby and Becca Buchs began their basketball careers by rebounding for their older brother. When they got to the first grade, it was their turn to get on the court in the Hamilton youth leagues. About five years ago, they moved to Angola and eventually became mainstays for the Hornets. Throughout all that, the twins played together, and they didn’t want that to end.
Carroll catcher learned from best
Hayden Jones saw the soon-to-be-retired No. 24 jersey of the late and legendary DeKalb baseball coach Bill Jones hanging on the outfield wall at DeKalb as the Carroll bus pulled up April 14. The Carroll sophomore catcher then began to tear up as he thought about his grandfather. “It was really nice to celebrate my grandfather’s number and what he accomplished,” Hayden said.
Cougars receiver glad to be back at it
The last time Saint Francis senior receiver Akeim Kelsaw was on the football field, the Cougars were just finishing a disappointing 6-5 record in 2014. By the time the program turned things around and got back to winning last season with an 11-1 record and an appearance in the NAIA tournament semifinals, Kelsaw was on the sidelines out for the season after an offseason Achilles injury.
Woman to lead IPFW for 1st time since 1999
IPFW athletic director Kelley Hartley Hutton wasn’t necessarily looking for a woman to lead the school’s women’s basketball program, it just worked out that way. Not that Hartley Hutton is complaining. San Diego assistant Niecee Nelson was formally introduced Wednesday as the 14th head coach of the 40-year-old program at a news conference at the Gates Center. Nelson is the 10th woman to lead the program but first since the late 1990s.
St. Francis' Sparks, a defensive force, once gave up sport
Saint Francis is lucky Lucas Sparks returned to football. In fourth grade, the senior-to-be defensive end decided he had enough of playing the sport and quit until his eighth-grade season. “Believe it or not, I hated practice and just didn’t want to play,” Sparks said Friday before a spring football practice. “The main reason I played was because my best friend wanted to play, and that was the only reason he could play was if I could play.
Ideal weather greets North Side Relays
There was an unusual sight at the North Side Relays on Saturday – sunshine. Known for some of the worst weather early spring has to offer over the years, the boys track meet was run for its 65th edition under a cloudless sky and temperatures that were in the 60s and 70s. Nobody was complaining, though, after witnessing chilly temps, blustery windy, rain and even snow at previous events.
Racer drives away stereotypes
The Manchester University sophomore soccer goalie climbed into a race car around the time most kids are learning how to ride a bike. But that’s also when the doubters began, even from her own family. When Erwin was 6 years old, her father, Chris, asked if her brother, Kyle, who is two years younger, wanted to start racing go-karts. Erwin was upset she also didn’t get the chance to go racing as well. It even took some coaxing from Erwin’s mother, Beth, to let Chris put Megan into a go-kart.
Carroll wins North Side Relays
Carroll won the 65th annual North Side Relays boys track meet Saturday with 190 points. Northrop was second with 144 points. Winning the high points awards were: Carroll's James Jamicich (field events), Northrop's Bijay Stephens (sprints, hurdles) and Homestead's Brayden Law (distance).
Irish's Beachem declares for NBA
Another Fort Wayne basketball product is testing the NBA waters as New Haven graduate and Notre Dame junior forward V.J. Beachem declared for the NBA draft on Tuesday. Beachem is not planning on hiring an agent, so he could return to the Irish next season. He joins Purdue freshman forward and Homestead graduate Caleb Swanigan in declaring for the draft but not hiring an agent. Beachem doubled his scoring (5.9 to 12 per game) and rebounding (1.4 to 3.9 per game) in his second season.
Blackmon back in city to play in Border Wars
Vijay Blackmon was back playing basketball in Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Fresh off a Class 3A state championship run, the Marion senior guard was among the players making their case for All-Star status at Saint Francis’ Hutzell Center during tryouts for the Indiana team in the 24th annual Nancy Rehm Border Wars. Blackmon spent a season at Bishop Luers before moving to Marion when his father, James Blackmon Sr., left Luers to coach his alma mater. “It feels good to be back home playing,” Blackmon said.
Cougars feel sting of loss in playoffs
A confident, but still motivated, Saint Francis football team will walk onto the turf field at D’Arcy Stadium today to begin spring practice, which is a lot different from last year when the Cougars were a lost bunch looking for direction. Last spring, Saint Francis was coming off a 6-5 season and missing the NAIA tournament.
Mastodons' star to test his shooting
Max Landis showed all season, especially the latter part of it, that he’s more than just a 3-point shooter. Now the IPFW redshirt senior gets a chance to reverse that process and demonstrate he is one of the better players in the nation at making baskets from beyond the arc. Landis will be one of eight men’s shooters, along with Indiana senior Yogi Ferrell, to compete in the 28th annual State Farm College 3-point championships today at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas.
Bleeding Hearts And Bloody Streets
Less than six months since Paris fell victim to a lethal barrage of terrorist attacks that shook the country, and the world, to its core, Europe is reeling once more. As the blood dries in Brussels the world’s most liberal continent is forced to weigh its philosophy of compassion against its own security.
Ball State grad thrilled to take field as coach
Mike Neu knew this day was coming for a couple of months, but that didn’t do anything to contain his enthusiasm when the Ball State graduate and former Cardinal quarterback stepped onto the field at Scheumann Field on March 22 as the one now directing his beloved program. “It was awesome,” Neu said of the program’s first spring practice.
Competition aplenty on Irish offense
SOUTH BEND – Just like about everything else for the Notre Dame football team, the offense is a work in progress. During spring practice, the Irish are moving things around, seeing where things might fit and taking a look at who might step up as replacements (even the banged-up ones) for some missing talent. Offensive linemen Ronnie Stanley and Nick Martin, receiver Will Fuller and running back C.J. Prosise left for the NFL, leaving spring practice with plenty of competition for spots left open.
Beachem making his point
SOUTH BEND – V.J. Beachem was buried so deep on the Notre Dame bench a search party would have taken days to find him as an option for an Irish team that went to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight a year ago. But that was then. These days, the New Haven graduate is making the most of another chance as the junior forward is starting and contributing heavily as the sixth-seeded Irish have returned to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 with a matchup against No. 7 seed Wisconsin on Friday.
