Serigne Sarré was on an eight-and-a-half-hour drive from his home in Maryland to his summer-ball destination in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., when his phone kept buzzing. Not only was Sarré trekking up the East Coast, but the date of his move fell on June 1 — the same day that the NCAA transfer portal opened for college baseball players. And Sarré, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound left-handed pitcher coming off two excellent seasons at Mount St. Mary’s, was in demand.
