Serigne Sarré was on an eight-and-a-half-hour drive from his home in Maryland to his summer-ball destination in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., when his phone kept buzzing. Not only was Sarré trekking up the East Coast, but the date of his move fell on June 1 — the same day that the NCAA transfer portal opened for college baseball players. And Sarré, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound left-handed pitcher coming off two excellent seasons at Mount St. Mary’s, was in demand.

Delaware transfer OF Sal Mineo to bring 'dynamic' offense, speed to Virginia baseball

The Delaware transfer outfielder committed to Virginia this past Saturday. “It’s a great opportunity,” Mineo told The Daily Progress by phone on Tuesday. Especially considering what it took for the left-handed hitting, speedster to earn himself another chance with a high-major program.
