I-194 threatens free speech for citizen groups | Opinion
You have the right to donate to the candidate you support. You can buy ads in your local newspaper. But what happens when you join your neighbors to advocate for an issue such as access to public lands or high property taxes and form an organization to amplify your voice? But if Montana Initiative 194 passes, the state could effectively prohibit your organization from participating in the political process. kAm|@?E2?2 x?:E:2E:G6 `hc[ H9:49 :D D6E E@ 2AA62C @? Rodeo finally gets its rightful recognition
Last week, cowboys and cowgirls from across the Treasure State gathered in Billings for the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame dinner. At the annual event, attendees celebrated a bit of recent history – the 2025 Montana Legislature’s designation of rodeo as Montana’s official state sport. And rightfully so. For generations, rodeo has been more than entertainment or the community event of the year. It has been a cultural tradition and way of life.

Montana Pharmacy Protection Act Original
This legislative session, Rep. Marta Bertoglio introduced House Bill 740 to help Montana’s pharmacies stand up to pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). Decades ago, these industry giants started filling a legitimate need in the processing and negotiating of prescription drug insurance benefits. However, they quickly grew and consolidated into some of the largest corporations in the United States, and now just a few PBMs control virtually the entire drug benefits market.
Proud of work done in first half of session
As the proud legislator for House District 88, my legislative priorities are set by the people of Stevensville and Florence. I was sent to Helena with the priorities of my constituents in mind. As your representative, I’ve heard the challenges that you face everyday, and with these challenges in mind, I arrived in Helena ready to promote conservative and fiscally responsible legislation.

The truth about serving in Montana’s Citizen Legislature
Public perception of legislators is often shaped by myths. Having served in Montana’s citizen legislature, I’ve seen firsthand the contrast between what people believe and reality. Dispelling the myths One myth is that legislators aren’t deep thinkers — that we’re just here for show. In reality, we come from all walks of life — farmers, business owners, tradesmen — bringing real-world experience to policymaking. Another misconception is that we must read every bill in full.
Why I won't keep my pay raise
by Rep. Greg Overstreet, HD-88, Stevensville I wanted to explain to readers a vote I took in the Montana House of Representatives because it shows some trickery that none of us like. House Bill 13 was a modest pay raise for Montana state employees. The collective bargaining representatives for employees and the Governor agreed to the amounts. So far, so good. However, hidden in House Bill 13 was a pay raise for legislators. I strongly opposed the legislative pay raise.
Embrace rodeo as official state sport | Greg Overstreet
In the rich tapestry of American culture, states have long recognized sports that embody their unique histories and traditions. For instance, Maryland honors jousting as its official state sport, reflecting its colonial-era pastimes, while Hawaii celebrates surfing, a nod to its Indigenous heritage. Similarly, Colorado’s designation of pack burro racing as a state sport pays homage to its mining history.

Our Republican freshman legislators are just like you | Greg Overstreet
The 2025 Montana Legislature is off to a promising start, and no group reflects that promise more than our new class of Republicans in the House of Representatives. I’m Rep.-Elect Greg Overstreet, proud to be among the new faces under the Capitol dome, and I can tell you firsthand: We exemplify Montana’s citizen legislature. A citizen legislature is a group of real people, not full-time legislators. The 2025 Republican freshman class have a wide variety of real jobs back home.
Thank you - Bitterroot Star
by Greg Overstreet, candidate for HD 88, Stevensville Thank you to the primary voters of Legislative District 88 (Stevensville and Florence) for my 54% victory in the June 4th primary. As the Republican nominee from the primary, I will face Democrat Evan Schroedel in the November general election. Traditionally the Republican nominee wins the November election in Ravalli County. I met so many great people when I was door belling and at community events.
