I write for publications big and small, here and overseas, in the process of writing the books that are my major passion. I'm interested in culture, religion, politics, literature, art, story, and I'm drawn to asking big questions and seeking some answers. I'm currently talking, thinking, and writing about my new book on racist mythologies and White Christian Nationalism for Oxford University Press. Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Jake Barnes from Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. And Mr. Hemingway sometimes feels pretty fictional to me as well.

What's your favorite social network?

I love the connections that Facebook offers--but Twitter seems to be the place where I connect or confront issues and ideas.

Why did you become a journalist?

Maybe the question would be why have I never stopped. Because there are some truths that have to be told in real time.
