Three new ponds aim to keep toxic algae out of a key St. Paul water source The $2.8 million project will filter runoff before it reaches East Vadnais Lake, a reservoir that supplies water to more than 400,000 people. Jay Enright fishes on East Vadnais Lake on May 27. Enright says he fishes on the lake at least twice a week. “It’s such a quiet, peaceful place,” he said.

Minnesota to return thousands of acres of forest to Fond du Lac Band

By Greg Stanley, Star Tribune A large stretch of forest inside the Fond du Lac Reservation that has been in state hands for more than 100 years will soon be returned to the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Minnesota lawmakers enabled the transfer of the 3,400 acres in a bonding bill signed by Gov. Tim Walz on Wednesday, resolving a yearslong push by the band and, more recently, by the University of Minnesota to return the land.
