While a graduate student at Fordham University, Professor Rummo’s research involved the synthesis of penicillin-like molecules to block the activity of beta-lactamase enzymes responsible for antibiotic resistance in bacteria. He also taught several sections of undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory. What was your first job as a journalist?

I was offered a job as a beat reporter for Gannett but turned it down and continued to write as a freelancer while running an import company

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I typed both of my master's dissertations on an IBM Selectric.

How is social media changing news?

Pre-Elon Musk for the worst by silencing conservative voices on Twitter's platform. Post-Elon Musk, we'll see.

2014 - Third place for feature writing

$4000 and recognition for having written a feature article with photos about Darryl Strawberry’s rise and fall and rise again. The article appeared in the Suburban Trends in northern New Jersey. This newspaper is one of a syndicate of North Jersey Media Group now owned by Gannett and a part of the USA Today network.

Amy Journalism Award

2001 - Second place $5,000 for column writing

The Amy Journalism Award is awarded to journalists and columnists who cover topics from a biblical world view and for having their work appear in a secular newspaper or magazine. This award was for my “Evangelical View” religion column “Prime-time Debauchery Makes Mockery of Fidelity,” written about Fox’s TV show “Temptation Island.”
