The relentless downpour in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh and the Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has led to an overflow in the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi perennial rivers, and the seasonal Ghaggar river, triggering catastrophic flooding in all the 23 districts of Punjab. Incessant rain in the state in the past couple of days has further worsened the situation.

Heatwaves, landslides, rising seas: How India’s climate is spiraling in real time
With the sea on three sides, southern India is feeling the heat—quite literally. Since early 2023, global sea surface temperatures have stayed unusually high, and that’s having serious consequences. Coastal states are now seeing earlier and longer heatwaves, more intense cyclones, and marine heatwaves happening more often than before. And it’s not just weather patterns that are changing—rising sea levels are putting millions at risk. Nearly 40% of India’s population lives along the coast.

What Data Reveals About India's Unemployed, Unemployable, And Unskilled Young Workforce?| Countercurrents
The demographic dividend that India enjoys today is unparalleled. About 54% of our population is below the age of 25. If we look back at the Union government’s policy documents and pronouncements from 2014-15, it indicates an awareness of the potential this holds for the country. However, this awareness doesn’t seem to prevent the ruling party from pursuing a politics that could potentially obliterate this demographic dividend.
Can India Escape The Vicious Cycle Of Natural Disasters? Original
Since the beginning of 2024, some parts of India have been reeling under the cycle of unpredictable weather, and natural disasters due to climate change. Sometimes it is suffering from extreme snowless winters, rain, extreme long and intense heat waves, droughts and floods, and pre-monsoon cyclonic storms etc. The rise in natural disasters in India has not been unexpected. The increase in natural disasters is due to the increase in the average temperature of the earth.
The million dollar question — what can soothe Indians from blistering heatwaves?

COMMENTARY: Why is the Hoosier state still unfriendly for immigrant neighbors?
With 2023 coming to an end, it’s worth taking a moment of reflection for the year passed. As a religious leader, I understand my place in humanity by my religious perspective. The Christian Bible gives us the concept of the “least among us” as the most important. The Torah says you shall love the stranger as yourself. The Quran says to give wealth to relatives, orphans, the needy, and the traveler. Based on these admonitions, we have a long way to go.
