How is social media changing news?

Social media both spreads and makes news - but its no substitution for good journalism.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I'm a fan of Sacharissa Cripslock from the Discworld novels - she's fierce, incredibly accurate and disarms people easily.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I was incredibly proud to write my first piece for Star Trek. It's iconic - and I got to write about injustices most British writers ignore.

What's your favorite drink?

I am almost entirely fuelled by black coffee like all good writers.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Hiking in the woods near my house.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That pop culture isn't as valuable or insightful as 'high culture'.
