Missing dad found dead in Roanoke Rapids Lake after kayaking last month: Sheriff

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCN) — The search for a missing Roanoke Rapids Lake kayaker has come to an end after other kayakers found his body Saturday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. Angel Rafael Aparicio Martinez, who leaves behind a toddler girl, went missing on May 14 after the two-person kayak he and his friend were in capsized in the lake. Martinez’s friend was able to be rescued by responders from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

‘Armed and dangerous’ pair escape from North Carolina detention center, officials say

HENDERSON, N.C. (WNCN) – Authorities said two men considered to be “armed and dangerous” escaped from the Vance County Detention Center in Henderson, North Carolina, on Wednesday afternoon. Michael Miles, 33, and LiShawn Knott, 21, escaped around 2 p.m. Wednesday and remained at large Thursday, according to Vance County Sheriff’s Office. “Both individuals are considered armed and dangerous,” a news release from the office said.
