The Trump administration has pledged to slash government spending while promising to “make America healthy again.” Congress could take a firm stride in this direction by enacting the recently reintroduced “Healthy SNAP Act,” to exclude unhealthy food and beverages, starting with soda, from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program program — something that is already done for alcohol and tobacco. SNAP is a lifeline for millions of Americans experiencing food insecurity.
