Aston Villa have made a much-needed signing to their midfield, adding Joao Gomes to the roster. The Villans have had a rough summer so far in terms of midfield numbers. Youri Tielemans has departed for Manchester United, while Amadou Onana ruptured his ACL while representing Belgium at the World Cup. Boubacar Kamara is also injured and will miss the first few months of the season.

The 2026 World Cup is over, with Spain crowned champions. This was a World Cup like never before, with 48 nations travelling across the United States, Mexico and Canada with the quest of being named world champions. Across those nations, 1,039 players made an appearance at the tournament, with some more memorable than others. England‘s years of hurt will not be stopping at 60, after they were knocked out of the 2026 World Cup. The Three Lions were beaten 2-1 by Argentina in the semi-finals, despite taking a 1-0 lead into the final 10 minutes. Within a matter of minutes, the inquests started, with Thomas Tuchel suffering a lot of criticism for his role in the defeat. Tuchel’s future was even thrown into doubt, though the FA appear happy to stick with the German for the rest of his contract.
