Baldwin High School students paint portraits of centenarians

Meeting folks who are eight decades older than her provided some revelations for Baldwin High School senior Aida Schmezer. “It was cool that even back then, teenagers hung out at the same places. We all went to Kennywood, got ice cream at Page’s and stuff like that,” she said, referencing the landmark amusement park and the longtime treat stand at the corner of Carson Street and Becks Run Road.

Fortunately for Dom Meloni, his move to Baldwin High School worked out especially well. “Before he attended this school, he was very quiet, and they brought him out of his shell,” his father, Chris McCoy, said about Dom’s new classmates.

Bethel Park teacher continues deep delve into Holocaust education

Photographs posted in Leigh Ann Totty’s Bethel Park High School classroom portray some of her travel destinations in Europe. Among them is Terezín, a small Czech Republic town about 50 miles north of the capital city, Prague, and once was home to the Theresienstadt Ghetto, a Nazi transit hub for deporting Jewish people to concentration camps and killing centers. “That was really an eye-opening experience for me to realize what I had not studied or learned,” Totty said.
