“Community is built here,” said Joe Barry, as we sat at Sol Food in Arroyo Seco one morning before the small village was fully awake. It quickly became obvious that Barry was not exaggerating. During the course of our conversation, everyone who walked through the café doors knew him. Barry greeted customers, staff members and passersby with the kind of ease that cannot be manufactured. In a place like Seco, community is about forming relationships and showing up for one another over time.
