My six-year-old daughter, Opal, wants nothing more than to go to the Humane Society to visit the dogs that “need the most love.” So we leave right from a half-day of school to do just that, eating almond butter and jelly sandwiches on the way. The entryway of the Boulder Valley Humane Society smells like wood chips. There is a stack of hamster cages by the front door, placed like intended impulse purchases, like Chapstick and breath mints at Target.

As the Dental Practice Accelerator draws to a close, Hannan and Daniel Saleem reflect on an extraordinary journey of growth, learning and transformation. At the start of the Dental Practice Accelerator Programme, Hannan and Daniel were seeking clarity and direction. Their goal was to establish a clear roadmap for the growth and improvement of their practice.

While we were going about our business on Monday, March 22, 2021, at 2:30pm, a gunman entered a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado and killed ten people. He used an automatic rifle that, as was later discovered, was purchased legally. That grocery store was seven miles from our front door. The echoing trauma from that singular event—representing countless others—is immeasurable. We told our 11-year-old daughter, Opal, the following morning.
