Nine Great Albums You (Probably) Haven’t Heard
Unless you’ve been living under a rock – or have a healthy life devoid of social media – for the last week or so a lot of people are doing the “nine albums that made me” trend. Basically, there’s a website, my9albums.org, that allows you to input your nine favorite albums and produces a snazzy graphic you can post on Insta or X. While I could have hopped on the (literal, of sorts) bandwagon here, I saw a lot of people with similar taste already posting.

Saluting America’s most agreed-upon band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
America turns 250 this year. That’s not exactly breaking news, but 2026 also marks a momentous anniversary for American music — the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It might seem presumptuous to connect a rock band to such a major historical event, but there is one bit of Tom Petty lore that makes the connection explicit. “American Girl” — an unlikely anthem with a bittersweet lyric and a Bo Diddley beat, and arguably the band’s most iconic song — was recorded on July 4, 1976.
Crooks and communists in James Ellroy’s latest epic
James Ellroy is one of the great American authors of the last 50 years, and yet, it is easy to dismiss his literary achievement. If you were to pick up his latest novel, Red Sheet, and turn to a random page, you’re likely to encounter such terse fragments as, “It was a sex-slash job. Cuts, mutilations, slashed throats.” Unfamiliar readers might think they’re dealing with just another hard-boiled crime writer, but Ellroy is decidedly more than that.
Ryan Holiday Learns Being A Stoic Is Not As Easy As It Looks Original
Let’s just get this out of the way — I like Ryan Holiday. In case you’re not aware of who he is, Holiday is a popular author who’s become a popular author by being famous on the internet. Unlike a lot of internet influencers, his chosen domain of expertise is somewhat unusual, however. For more than a decade, he’s been the public face of Stoicism — the ancient Roman philosophy that advocates regulating your emotions and being resilient in the face of external challenges.
What the Hell Happened to DOGE?
While there are many political and policy victories Trump supporters can point to after his first year back in office, there are also questions about what might have been. A lingering one is often uttered in the form of a sigh: “What the hell happened to DOGE?” Elon Musk first suggested the Department of Government Efficiency to Trump during the 2024 campaign.

Model City: Portland’s Journey From Symbol of Chic to Shabby
In December, bestselling author and humorist David Sedaris wrote a New Yorker magazine essay about a recent trip to Portland, Oregon. While on a walk to a donut shop, he “lost count of the strung-out addicts I passed on my way” before eventually encountering four homeless people huddled around an empty baby carriage and smoking drugs right on the sidewalk. Moments later, a dog belonging to one of the addicts rushed out and bit him.

Anti-ICE Activists’ Goal Isn’t Stopping Violence - It’s Ending All Immigration Enforcement, by Mark Hemingway
A simple, but deeply unfair and manipulative, narrative about ICE’s enforcement of immigration law congealed as soon as Trump took office: ICE enforcement amounts to egregious military-style raids in otherwise peaceful communities, and as such, ICE is responsible for any unfortunate violence that accompanies their enforcement activities. Obviously, that narrative has gone into overdrive since the unfortunate killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis last week.

The Federalist's Notable Books Of 2025 Original
If you’re new around here, we have a little holiday tradition — we ask the writers, editors, and contributors at The Federalist to tell us about their reading habits in the past year, and highlight their favorite books for your general edification. Bear in mind, these aren’t necessarily new books, just the best ones they managed to read. Without further ado … Many of my favorite books this year are about history, though some seem disturbingly timely. Jews vs.
Latest Epstein Emails About Trump Appear To Be Just Another Misleading Democrat Info Op
Original Article Posted By: Mercedes44, 11/13/2025 6:37:33 AM For the last several months, Democrats have been trying furiously to tie Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein. Aside from the fact that this media campaign is obviously not organic, it's utterly bizarre and disingenuous. Democrats simply don't care about ties to Epstein, and never have. They only care that these allegations can be used to possibly harm Trump.

Trump Is Not To Blame For Democrats Electing Violent Extremists, by Mark Hemingway
While liberal America is justifiably triumphant about Tuesday night’s election results, a lot of professionals are quietly worried about extremism infecting the party. Certainly, electing a mayor of New York who’s an unfortunate hellbroth of communism, Islamism, and “defund the police,” is not someone you want defining your party nationally.

National Review's Unfortunate Attack On Phyllis Schlafly Gets Conservative History All Wrong
Original Article Posted By: Mercedes44, 11/1/2025 3:07:49 PM National Review is turning 70. The legacy of that publication is hard to sum up, but suffice it to say, its impact on American politics has been enormous, and it's one I certainly feel personally. I worked there for a couple of years, and I was very grateful for the job and the experience it gave me. My tenure at NR only overlapped with the last few months of William F.

The Left Has Never Been Held Accountable For Political Violence Original
Yesterday, I was writing a piece on the tragic killing of Iryna Zarutska down in Charlotte that has captured national attention. Before I could finish, news came down the beloved conservative activist Charlie Kirk had been shot at a university in Utah. I’ve been covering politics for a long time, and I can’t say I’ve ever had a story about politically charged violence pre-empted by even more political violence. Nor do I ever want this to happen again.
3 Ways Americans Can Fight U.K.'s Suppression Of Free Speech
Yesterday, the news came that Graham Linehan was arrested by five police officers the moment he stepped off a plane at Heathrow. Though he’s less well-known in America, Linehan is an Irish comic genius who created two of the most beloved U.K. sitcoms of the last 30 years — Father Ted and The I.T. Crowd. Linehan’s supposed crime is that he has been a persistent online critic of the transgender movement, and his arrest was over three tweets, which you can read here.
Stop Tolerating The Toxic Ideas Of Black Radicals Original
Social media has an annoying habit of ablating any remaining desire for good intellectual hygiene, so I recently clicked on a video of Joy Reid. Since being dumped from MSNBC, Reid has been making the podcast rounds.
Democrats' Sudden Obsession With Epstein Is Opportunistic Original
Matt Taibbi recently flagged this choice tidbit from a New York Times story attempting to downplay damning new revelations about the Russiagate hoax from Trump’s first term: “The administration is trying to distract supporters who are angry about its broken promise to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.” There’s no evidence whatsoever this is the reason why the Trump administration is trying to hold people accountable for falsely accusing the president of colluding with Russia.
Glenn Kessler And The End Of Media 'Fact Checking' Original
They say that you shouldn’t meet your heroes. Well, in Washington, D.C., the problem is that everyone is in such proximity that you sometimes meet your enemies, and they’re not what you think they are. Most of the time, they turn out to be nice people, which makes it that much harder to point out that they’re running the country into a ditch. So I should say a word, then, about how I met Washington Post “fact checker” Glenn Kessler.
The Swamp Just Flinched: Inside the Federal Layoff Panic
Obnoxious and entitled federal bureaucrats’ attempts to resist reform are making it hard to say good things about public service. Right now, there’s a lot of angst in certain corners about the Trump administration’s attempt to downsize the federal bureaucracy.
Federal Workers Are Being Held Accountable For The First Time Original
Right now, there’s a lot of angst in certain corners about the Trump administration’s attempt to downsize the federal bureaucracy. I say “certain corners” because I don’t think this concern is widely held by American voters, but since I live in a Washington, D.C. suburb there’s a lot of anguished Facebook posts and fretful conversations between neighbors — to say nothing of a sudden increase in housing stock, following years of high mortgage rates suppressing the market.
Hollywood's Inability To Create Masculine Stars Is A Problem Original
Two of the biggest movies this summer are Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning and F1, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, respectively. The two movies have something interesting in common — both are star vehicles for men in their sixties. Brad Pitt will be 62 later this year, and Tom Cruise just turned 63 last week. Pitt and Cruise aren’t exceptions, either. The biggest male movie stars are all aging. Clooney is 64 and McConaughey is 55.
Gaslight. Loot. Blame Trump. Repeat. The Democrat-Media Complex Just Hit Narrative Rock Bottom - and Started Digging
All of the media narratives shoved down America’s throat in 2020 to justify rioting are falling flat this time around — but they’re still trying to deceive you. As much as it’s horrifying to watch a city burn and the lives of cops and federal agents threatened by violent protesters, there is a silver lining to the last several days of rioting in Los Angeles.
L.A. Riots Show Dem-Media Complex's Loss Of Narrative Control Original
As much as it’s horrifying to watch a city burn and the lives of cops and federal agents threatened by violent protesters, there is a silver lining to the last several days of rioting in Los Angeles. The desperate attempts to spin what’s happening do a fairly good job of illustrating what’s wrong with the political discourse in this country — and further demonstrate that the dishonest sophistry used to excuse violent riots in 2020 is no longer remotely persuasive.
Comey's Latest Novel Might Be The Smoking Gun Proving He Intended To Threaten Trump
Original Article Posted By: mc squared, 5/16/2025 9:31:56 PM Yesterday, James Comey caused quite the stir when he went on Instagram and posted a picture of a shell formation on the beach - obviously one he made - that spelled out "86 47," which many interpreted as a threat on President Trump's life.[snip] However, it gets worse than that for Comey.

The Downfall Of 60 Minutes And The Biggest Media Scandal You’ve Never Heard Of Original
Last week, Bill Owens, the executive producer of CBS’ flagship news program 60 Minutes, resigned, “citing encroachments on his journalistic independence,” per The New York Times. In the first show since the news of Owens’ resignation broke, 60 Minutes ended the program with a glowing, if dubious, tribute to Owens that has since gone viral online.
America's Librarians Became Militantly Political
Churchill once said of John Foster Dulles that he was “the only case I know of a bull who carries his own China shop around with him.” Had Churchill miraculously lived another 60 odd years, I think he would agree that when it comes to this particular metaphor, Dulles has been outclassed. At the dawn of Trump’s second term, we even see that the bull has become self-aware and is deliberately trying to break as much of the federal crockery as he can get away with.

Democrats’ Biggest Problem Right Now Is That They Are Out Of Touch And Uncool
I am a middle-aged dad, and to quote Abe Simpson, a minor character from a show that was popular 30 years ago, “I used to be with ‘it,’ but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it,’ and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you!” Obviously, I am no longer an arbiter of what’s cool, if I ever was one.

Facebook's 'Fact Checkers' Are Still Complicit In Censorship
Tuesday morning, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta’s social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads would be eliminating their heavy-handed censorship policies and moving towards a “community notes” model for policing content like X. This includes terminating their “third party factchecking program” where the company paid legacy media organizations to “fact check” content on the site and then used those judgments to censor content.

We Need To Have A National Conversation About ‘Toxic Femininity’
We’ve spent several years now talking about “toxic masculinity,” though I’m not sure what exactly it means. It’s a great example of what Andrew Hofer calls “Trojan terminology” — think “white supremacy,” “settler colonialism,” “anti-racism” etc.
Harris Quoted One Of Hitler's Favorite Writers During Concession
Like lots of Americans, I tuned in Wednesday afternoon to hear Kamala Harris’ belated concession speech. I had low expectations for what she was going to say, but the spectacle of Harris graciously conceding to a man she had very recently warned was an incipient fascist was too jarring not to witness.
