As someone who has studied a lot of medical history in my time, the absolute strangest things I have learned in my time have been the bizarre things that medieval people believed about women’s bodies. To be a woman in the Middle Ages in Britain was never going to be easy, but to be a woman in need of medical attention (which anyone having a baby would be) would be a completely other level of hard thanks to the lack of medieval knowledge about women’s bodies and medical needs.
