After winning the ARCA Menards Series championship in 2022, Nick Sanchez’s rookie season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series wasn’t one without growing pains, heartbreak and near misses. He impressed in qualifying to the tune of five poles and nine front-row starts, but he only finished in the top five twice and was unable to visit victory lane despite leading 309 laps in his first season.

September 25, 2023 John Bonham was discovered dead by his bandmates on the morning of Sept. 25, 1980, at only 32 years old. His death was the direct result of a 12-hour binge drinking spree, which would ultimately result in him choking on his own vomit during sleep. An inquest later showed that in 12 hours, he had consumed over 40 vodka shots. There were no other drugs in his body at the time, so it was this alone that had led to disaster.

Maybe I meant to say all too long. I don’t think it matters. Late August was sweaty. Another goodbye. Home is far away now. My heart is in East Lansing, but my home is elsewhere. 14 weeks. I’m shocked at how much I’ve changed. I’m embarrassed at how much I’ve stayed the same. It’s been a long road but a short time.

This week in music history, one of the biggest influences for an entire genre of music was born. On Nov. 28, 1929, Motown founder Berry Gordy was born in Detroit. Before music, Gordy had been a boxer, a soldier and worked at a car factory. He first found success in songwriting, according to the Motown Museum, writing hits for singers such as Jackie Wilson and Etta James.
