Performance optimization of a polymer-embedded dual-core slot-assisted plasmonic switch for PICs

This work presents the optimization of a slot-assisted dual-core-based plasmonic switch (SADCPS), where a polymer cladding is employed to strengthen optical confinement in the narrow slot separating the silicon waveguides. Owing to its low propagation loss, the device demonstrates enhanced extinction ratio (ER) and figure-of-merit (FOM) performance.

In this study, a novel, to our knowledge, electro-absorption modulator (EAM) integrated with graphene–ITO (indium tin oxide) is designed and investigated. The study leverages the electrical and optical characteristics of plasmonic materials to assess performance metrics. The device’s key parameters, including the extinction ratio (ER), figure-of-merit (FOM), and mode power attenuation, are calculated using the finite-element method.
