A molten salt metal-air electrolyzer for recycling superalloy
Abstract Recovering critical strategic metals from superalloy scraps is indispensable to sustaining the materials supply chain. However, the excellent physicochemical properties of superalloy make them difficult to dissolve and separate, thereby hindering their recycling and reutilization. Here, we design a molten salt metal–air electrolyzer (MMAE) that synergistically oxidizes and pulverizes scraps, which generates oxide powders that can be easily dissolved and separated for all element recovery.
Upcycling of waste sodium sulfate to sodium carbonate and sulfur
Abstract Waste sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) is a common industrial byproduct that poses environmental risks and resource loss if improperly managed. Here, we report a thermochemical upcycling method to convert waste Na2SO4 into value-added sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and sulfur (Sx). In this process, Na2SO4 is first reduced to sodium sulfide (Na2S) at 750 °C using charcoal.
Co-upcycling spent lithium-ion batteries and plastics into microwave absorbing materials with Ni-Co catalyst control - Nature Communications
Abstract Co-upcycling plastics with lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) into carbon nanotubes (CNTs) offers a promising high-value approach; however, it is hindered by the challenge of poisoning metal catalysts by carbon deposition and the uncontrollable particle growth. Here, we propose a co-upcycling strategy to convert spent LiNixCoyMn1-x-yO2 (NCM) and binary plastics—polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and other plastics—into NiCoMnOx/CNTs composites (or materials) for microwave absorption.
