Decellularized xenograft heart valves are promising biomaterials due to their advantages, such as reduced immunogenicity, abundant resources, and natural histoarchitecture, which are important for tissue engineering. Although clinical research on decellularized xenograft valves continues, a successful product has not been developed yet. This review compares the in vivo and in vitro findings of decellularized porcine and sheep heart valves to highlight the correct source of xenografts.
