There are not many occasions where we could say that the MVP award was split between four different athletes in Allegany County. But this past week, the Allegany County Athletic Association (ACAA) officially released their final set of All-Star nominations for this school year, with Bolivar-Richburg’s Landon Barkley and Kylee Whiting, along with Genesee Valley/Belfast’s Ryan Daciw and Hannah Powers leading the way with MVP nods in baseball and softball this past Spring.

By John Anderson/Wellsville Sun MIDDLETOWN — A strange noise echoed through the school hallways in Wellsville, a loud thud with a metallic edge to it. Members of the custodial staff never looked up as they cleaned the combination of dirt, mud and sand and salt from snow off the floors on this early December day. The echo continued down toward the music rooms where Jeff Joslyn is giving music lessons after school. He continues on as if the sound was a metronome. Everyone was used to it.

MIDDLETOWN — With the Wellsville Lions bringing home not one, but two Class C New York State Champions in Xavier Scott and Kaylee Oswald, the rest of the field surrounding them were also very much in contention to claim gold of their own in Middletown this past weekend, as the home of the Middies was packed far and wide with some of the most elite talent around.
BINGHAMTON — The Susquehanna River is the longest river of its kind centralized from within the Eastern Seaboard, stretching from as far north as the birthplace of baseball in Cooperstown, to as far south towards a place where you will find many, many fishermen basking in the surrounding beauty on the water — the Chesapeake Bay.

The Wellsville junior breezed to a personal best in the New York State Track and Field Championships with a time of 14.41 at Middletown High School. When the other heats ended, Xavier's time was a half-second faster than anyone else. His veteran coach, Dean Giopulos, was stunned.

A POTTER OF GOLD: After remarkable Class D title win last week, Fillmore baseball captures 1st ever Far West title behind Potter’s walk-off single in thrilling 4-3 win over Franklinville - WellsvilleSports.com
NEWARK — The scene at Maple City Park in Hornell last weekend was something straight out of a movie. A cinematic marvel that was so intense, so mesmerizing and, in the champion’s case, so overwhelmingly gratifying. It was one of those moments where dreams and fantasy became a reality, even if the process leading up to it wasn’t an easy-going one at first. In what was their third trip to the Finals in four years, they seized their second title.
HAMBURG — There was a point in time during the beginning of the season where the Lady Eagles of Fillmore were still turning the key to fire up their engines. In the beginning of April, in their game against Bolivar-Richburg, the Lady Eagles had committed nine errors on the field in what was a 12-9 home loss. But despite the early complications, they continued to grind.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: On top of Cowburn’s resilient pitching, gutsy steal of home by MVP Grover helps unlock 2nd straight Class B title for No. 1 Wellsville, cap off rally with 4-3 win over No. 2 LeRoy - WellsvilleSports.com
HORNELL — One of the most exciting plays in baseball is the straight steal of home. But it's also one of the rarest plays in baseball, because of the distance between the pitcher's mound and home plate. For two years, the Wellsville Lions have been at the top of Section V, Class B baseball as the No. 1 seed, and a Sectional title last year on the strength of hitting and pitching.
LIVONIA — Three of Allegany County’s teams left standing have punched their tickets for Regional action beginning this upcoming weekend. If the events of Monday night’s Class C State Qualifier were to go in their direction, the Class C2 champion Lady Wolverines of Bolivar-Richburg would become the fourth team to chart their course to that final stepping stone before Binghamton. To do it, a monumental challenge lay ahead.

The Eagles weren’t going to forget about that day. They couldn’t. Because there was an ongoing thought in the back of their minds.

HONEOYE FALLS — The art of winning is a beautiful thing. The sense of accomplishment, the joy and jubilation, and on some occasions, great relief. It is a whirlwind of emotion that teams like the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Bulls during in the 1990s, as well as some modern-day sports sovereigns like the New England Patriots and the Chicago Blackhawks, have experienced a tremendous amount of. It evokes a feeling of mass euphoria that every team hopes to relish in.

BRADFORD — Whenever Bolivar-Richburg has entrusted the ball to their stellar freshman pitcher Kylee Whiting, the sky’s the limit. Across a span of six starts stemming towards the beginning of May against Fillmore, Whiting has been absolutely marvelous, recording at least 10 strikeouts in five of those contests — two of them coming in their first two battles of the postseason, including a masterful 15-strikeout no-hit performance against Kendall to reach the Class C2 Semifinal round.
