Ghost hunter Brian Pierce brings the paranormal to Essex Museum
Brian Pierce's introduction to the paranormal was simple. “I enjoyed the TV shows, and I had a thought: ‘This looks like it would be fun to do,’” he said. What started as a casual group of friends in 2012 while he was a Towson University student has evolved into something far more substantial—a 13-member paranormal investigation team and now, a dedicated exhibit room at the Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River.
Billy Alexander returns to Maryland to perform at the Weinberg Center
When musician Billy Alexander first heard the band Rush's album “2112” as a 10-year-old in late-1970s Maryland, he knew his tennis-racket air guitar days were over. Nearly five decades later, that life-changing moment has transformed into YYNOT, a Rush tribute band that performs both Rush covers and original Rush-inspired songs.
Young actor Luke Dodge rises to micro-drama stardom
Having just celebrated his birthday the day before, the newly 20-year-old Luke Dodge woke up on July 26, checked his phone and discovered another birthday surprise: Yet another 10 million fans had held their breaths and gasped as they streamed his latest micro drama, “Don’t Miss Me When I’m Gone,” bringing his cumulative view count to an astonishing 110 million. His total views are now over 150 million, with “Don’t Miss Me When I’m Gone” surpassing 100 million.
Table Tennis Club cultivates low-pressure, relaxing environment for both beginners and national competitors
“Five serving three!” A player yelled out his game’s score through the din of friendly banter and the sharp click-clacking of ping pong balls furiously bouncing from rackets to tables. Every other Wednesday at the beginning of lunch, Table Tennis Club members convert the tiny weight gym in RM’s basement into a far more crowded room with enough courts for 10 simultaneous games.
Twinbrook Pool celebrates 75th anniversary
Those driving past the neat green lawns and charming colonial houses of Atlantic Avenue usually don’t notice the small blue and white sign that declares “OPENS MEMORIAL WEEK END: MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE.” But regulars know that if you turn right and drive down the winding asphalt path that the sign heads, you can start to hear the faint echo of parents chatting, coaches yelling and children giggling and splashing in the secluded oasis that is the Twinbrook Pool.
A Taste of Home
Categories: June 5, 2025 Just a few minutes away from the busiest part of Rockville, New York Mart stands in a little corner of Rockville, attracting both immigrants longing for the comforting taste of home, and those who want to explore the vibrant flavors of Chinese cuisine. The supermarket was opened in 2015 and is cluttered with delightful oddities that go far beyond the traditional chain supermarket.
Chen takes final curtain call at spring coffeehouse
“Are you here, dead mom?” senior Jasmine Chen sang. To start out the evening, she belted out the lyrics of the song “Dead Mom” from the movie “Beetlejuice” in an impromptu karaoke. Technical difficulties—more so a Fine Lines coffeehouse tradition than even the off-pitch “Let It Go” singalongs—meant the audience needed distraction.
The 30 year reign of Laura Goetz
“All strippers take cash!” Laura Goetz grinned. Her class burst into laughter—in the awkward sort of way you do when you’re too stunned to respond with words. “I mean calculus. They need it ‘cause they’re always spinning around those poles.” No, Ms. Goetz wasn’t giving life advice about exotic dancers. She was instead teaching trigonometry to sophomores in Richard Montgomery High School’s rigorous International Baccalaureate magnet program.
Unlocking the potential investment opportunities in China's local government bonds
Local government bonds (LGBs) make up 28% of China’s bond market but account for less than 1% of foreign holdings due to liquidity and credit concerns. The Chinese government is improving transparency and liquidity, introducing a debt restructuring initiative to enhance investor confidence in LGBs. The FTSE BOC China Local Government Bond Index Series offers investors a structured benchmark to assess market performance and investment potential.

The piercing voices of excited and passionate amateur singers belt out from the auditorium every Thursday during Karaoke Club’s weekly meeting, often accompanied by backing tracks and lyric videos projected on a screen. The club was founded last year by seniors Richard Zhu, Kaixin Hou, Iden Han and Ruslan Akmyradov, who are co-presidents of the club.

Black culture flourishes during African Diaspora Night
RM families gathered in the school for a joyous celebration of the delicious food, flamboyant fashion and creative talent that is Black culture during Black Student Union’s African Diaspora Night Friday, Feb. 21. BSU began planning for the event a year in advance since the last Diaspora Night had issues with coordination and flow despite stellar student performances. Before the summer even started, a Google Drive folder was created with a setlist, itinerary and logistics planned out.
Roses are red, violets are blue, Fine Lines brings romance to the school
On Valentine’s Day morning, hundreds of students were delighted to receive a surprise delivery of fresh roses and an intimate note from their friends and lovers during Fine Lines’ beloved annual rose sale. “Delivery day is my favorite part of the rose sale,” junior and editor-in-chief Ansuya Bisbey said.
RM hosts second annual international night
On Monday, Feb. 16, during Richard Montgomery’s International Night, the halls echoed with the sound of a large bustling crowd that hurried from table to table to sample the delicious cuisines of the diverse cultures that make up the school. International night was an idea devised by senior Natalie Marmelstein the previous year as the schoolwide secretary of RM.
Southeast Asian Club, Asian American Club, NCHS slither into the Year of the Snake
As Wednesday Jan. 29 marked the Lunar New Year, multiple clubs at RM held celebrations that week—filled with food, history and a strong sense of community—to honor the culture and traditions that surround the more than 2000-year-old holiday. RM’s Southeast Asian Club held a Lunar New Year potluck, along with the Jaguar Scholars Leadership Program, Tuesday Jan. 28. While JSLP is a largely Latino club, it is inclusive of and celebrates the importance of all cultures.
Tea Club, Asian American Club partner to fundraise for typhoon victims
From Oct. 14 to Oct. 22, RM’s Tea Club and Asian American Club partnered together to hold a fundraiser in support of victims of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam. The Asian American Club (AAC) has been a fixture at RM since the 20th century. Senior Ngoc Trinh joined the club in her junior year. “I want to spread awareness because there’s a lot of Asian hate, and it’s really normalized,” Trinh said.
