Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was the morning news man on WRGW 540AM at GWU.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I own two old Smith-Coronas that I...liberated in college from an unlocked room on a campus I won't mention.

How is social media changing news?

It's increasing the size of the audience but journalists are suddenly using it to become the story vs the actual story.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Kent Brockman

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell the story accurately without injecting one's bias into the mix. Educate and tell the truth.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Even though I have a lot of experience with CE, and pop culture, I am also a trained chef and know a lot about the food, politics.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MacBook Pro, Canon Rebel DSLR, Photoshop, MS Word, Social Media, Hubspot

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

James Ellroy, Geddy Lee, Gal Gadot, and Titus Welliver

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I had a horrible speech impediment as a kid and I vanished in my writing. I love creating or telling a story to the reader.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes. I edited the sports pages and took all of the photographs.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I did a small story for a local Jewish publication in New Jersey about Ft. Monmouth and the Rosenberg Trial.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Don't do it. Stay in school and become a doctor.

When's the best time to pitch you?

At night or first thing in the morning.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Marry me. Please.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A sinking fastball from Justin Verlander. Almost took my knees out.

What's your favorite drink?

Root Beer

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Cooking or listening to music. Or running on the beach.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Forbes, WSJ, and the Jerusalem Post.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it is cool to play with technology all the time. Too much time with machines and not enough with people.
