The people’s champ is back at it again. The Volkswagen GTI has been appeasing hot hatch lovers since the mid seventies worldwide and since 1979 here in the Great White North (fun fact: Canada got the GTI a couple years before America did). And no, it wasn’t the very first incarnation of the hot hatch, but it definitely helped popularize and define the segment ever since its inception, and still does today. And who knew a practical performance car for the masses could be successful?

What does Mitsubishi make these days? And no, I’m not talking about their heavy industries arm that makes literally everything, but the car manufacturer? Take a second, because as much as you think you do, you don’t know their entire lineup. Here in Canada we get the RVR, Eclipse Cross and the Outlander. That’s a razor thin lineup and I bet you didn’t get all three. I sure didn’t.

615 horsepower. 650 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in under 3.3 seconds. That’s supercar numbers right there. But I’m not talking about a supercar, I’m talking about the 2026 Cadillac Lyriq-V, the hot blooded version of Cadillac’s midsize EV family hauler. It’s a strange world we live in. Just a few years ago 600+ horsepower would be considered absolutely absurd. Today, it’s eyebrow raising but not jaw dropping, especially contrasted against a curb weight that’s a hair short of six thousand pounds.
