This protocol describes the design of an RCT to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of NEL at the time of temporising device insertion to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes in preterm infants with IVH at 2 years. This is the first RCT to investigate this intervention, and if successful, will allow rapid adoption into standard clinical practice within the National Health Service. ENLIVEN-UK opened for recruitment in May 2024 with a 12-month in-folded pilot with clear progression criteria.
