Inger Christensen, translated by Denise Newman for Søren Melson 1. We shall see Jesus as Christ on the cross. We shall see the cross as the tines on the deer’s antlers. We shall see the deer as part of the trunks of the forest. We shall see its antlers imitating the branches of the trees. We shall see this branching in its most extreme states at the same time: the dead, petrified tree with the missing crown, the living tree with the uplifted crown.

– Kl. 2139. Melding om brann i et silobygg/silo el. ved Eiken sagbruk. Brann er på stede, skriver operasjonsleder Eivind Formoe. Det har tatt fyr i takkonstruksjonen og politiet er på vei til stedet. Les også Hjørnestensbedrift Ifølge Fædrelandsvennen er dette andre brann i samme silo på bare et halvt års tid. Også 10. april i år oppsto en mindre brann i bygningen. Hasås sagbruk avdeling Eikås, også kjent som «saga i Eikåsen», er en hjørnestensbedrift i Eiken.

I’m thinking back to January 1979, when I received a letter whose writer told of his sudden fear of snow; for an instant the snow floating down to earth had been a poison that smothered all life. Translated from the Danish by Susanne Nied. When I was nine years old, the world, too, was nine years old. At least, there was no difference between us, no opposition, no distance. We just tumbled around from sunrise to sunset, earth and body as alike as two pennies.
