I am a semi-retired reporter and photographer. I am a native New Yorker living in western Nebraska.

I maintain my own website, write on Substack, and have a podcast about the history of western Nebraska.

I have written two magazines for the Star-Herald. The first was about solar eclipses in preparation for the 2017 total solar eclipse. The second was on the history of Fort Robinson. I also wrote a book at the Star-Herald commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Scotts Bluff National Monument.

Two bronze statues of iconic Nebraskans make their way to their new homes in Omaha 1 of 3 Bronze Sculptures by David Biehl are on their way to Omaha. In the foreground are Dr. Lee Simmons and his wife Marie. Simmons was a veterinarian at the Henry Doorly Zoo before becoming director. In the early days of the zoo, Marie would care for baby gorilla at home. In the background is Omaha-Native and Medal of Honor Recipient Miguel Keith who was killed in action on May 8, 1970 in Vietnam.

Scottsbluff Council to host LNM director

SCOTTSBLUFF — The executive director of the League of Nebraska Municipalities will conduct a workshop with the Scottsbluff City Council Monday night. Lynn Rex will give a presentation pertaining to governance and municipal ideas and host a discussion amongst the council members. With three of the five-member council serving their first terms, Mayor Raymond Gonzales and the council asked Rex to make the presentation to help them better define their roles and responsibilities.

Regional West attributes small number of staff layoffs to realignment

SCOTTSBLUFF — In a bit of corporate adjustment and realignment, there were limited layoffs at Regional West Health Services Tuesday. A statement obtained by the Star-Herald from the organization reads: “Regional West Health Services continually evaluates the performance of the health system to adjust to current health care trends. Based on that review, operational adjustments along with organizational realignment changes were made today, September 24, 2019.
