Results To determine how the sepals achieve smooth morphology, we performed a forward genetic screen58 and identified an Arabidopsis mutant with an irregular morphology, characterized by folds and outgrowths (Figures 1A–1F). The folds comprise ridges and invaginations, whereas the outgrowths appear as pointed epidermal projections at the end of the folds (Figures 1F, S1A, and S1B).

Battery storage is essential to integrating more renewable energy into the grid. It provides energy resiliency in the case of natural disasters. It can advance environmental justice by replacing peaker plants, gas or oil plants that run when there is high demand. Peaker plants are dirtier than most power plants and usually sited in low-income communities and communities of color. There have increasingly been concerns about the safety of large-scale battery storage systems.
