I was a staff opinion columnist for the Yale Daily News. The news was so integral for my development as a journalist.

Social media is changing news because people have a lot more access to information. There are also more avenues to publish pieces now.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
I think that journalism is about telling truthful, well-rounded stories. I want to talk to people and highlight overlooked voices.

Why did you become a journalist?
I've always enjoyed writing, talking to people and making up stories. I initially planned to pursue law, but I couldn't stop writing.

I didn't work for my high school paper.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
I think that aspiring journalists need to write...and keep writing. Listen to your editors. Write about different topics.

I don't really have a beat—I try to write about everything. People may think that art is superficial or elitist, but I don't think it's true
