What was your first job as a journalist?
Freelance correspondent for my county's paper. Covered municipal and school board meetings.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Mary Jane in the Spider-Man PS4 game. She's a Daily Bugle reporter in the story, and I really appreciate how her character was approached.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's never-ending quest for knowledge, not a show of it.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Just email me and tell me what you have in mind.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A notebook, the audio recorder and camera on my phone, Word, Google Docs, and Wordpress.
Who do you wish followed you?
Hideki Kamiya, chief game designer at PlatinumGames, would be pretty cool. He'd probably just block me instead, though.
Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted a career in sports and sports writing seemed like the path that made the most sense. Found out I can write about other stuff, too.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time, really.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Out taking a walk since the pandemic has limited or cut off most other options.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I really like The Athletic and ESPN.com's hockey coverage.
