A ground breaking moment for me concerning how I consume music was when it really dawned that before the artist makes the song, it doesn’t exist in the world. Every song is original to the artist. The experience of listening to the music is so different from creating it because as a consumer, our brains don’t have to put the pieces together, we simply appreciate or judge it, based on how familiar it is, or how relatable its sound or message is to us at the point in time of listening.

In Lagos, as is with many cities of modern humankind, there’s a popular desire for third spaces; places that give people an opportunity to meet, interface with and commune with other people over a common cause which could range from art, to faith, to conversations and other humanities. Over the last century, faith spaces did most of the work, but today in addition to churches, mosques and synagogues, we see more people who are willing to interface with art in various forms.
