Introduction The utilization of solar energy to facilitate photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into renewable fuels and organic chemicals is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing energy crises [1], [2], [3]. In the natural photosynthesis system, which is constructed with multiple electron donors and acceptors, the photogenerated charge carriers move step-by-step in a specific direction to avoid recombination of electrons and holes [4], [5], [6].

Seagrass is found in coastal habitats globally, including all marine bioregions of Australia, and its distribution and form depends strongly on local environmental and anthropogenic conditions1. The estimated total area of seagrass meadows within the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) World Heritage Area is greater than 40,000?km2, and exceeds that of coral reef2,3. This together with their profound ecological importance highlights the significance of monitoring and protecting seagrass habitats1.
