Urticaria and Angioedema: When East Meets West—and the Middle
Chronic urticaria (CU) and angioedema represent common morbid conditions, affecting millions worldwide and imposing substantial personal, societal, and economic costs [1]. While the biological underpinnings of many forms of mast cell mediated urticaria/angioedema and bradykinin-mediated angioedema are increasingly well characterised, the lived experience and care of patients with these conditions remains strikingly unequal across regions.
Early cardiovascular and respiratory changes after etorphine immobilization and naltrexone reversal in sheep
Abstract Introduction: The immediate cardiorespiratory responses to etorphine immobilization and reversal with naltrexone in wildlife are underexplored. Objective: To evaluate the early cardiorespiratory changes after etorphine immobilization and reversal with naltrexone in sheep, as a model for wild ungulates.
Effects of body positions and anaesthesia on the distribution of ventilation in alpacas ( Vicugna pacos )
Abstract This study monitored and detected changes in the distribution of ventilation and other electrical impedance tomography (EIT) related ventilation variables across different body positions throughout all peri- and intra-anaesthetic stages in alpacas, while also evaluating intra-individual differences between two anaesthetic procedures.
Case Report: Treating obstructive sleep apnea with maxillomandibular advancement surgery in a case with a previously reconstructed mandible
Abstract Background: Maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) serves as a surgical option for the management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, its application in patients with a previously reconstructed mandible is rarely reported and technically challenging. This paper reports a case of MMA for OSA in a patient who had undergone mandibular reconstruction.

Non-canonical lysosomal lipolysis drives mobilization of adipose tissue energy stores with fasting - Nature Communications
Abstract Physiological adaptations to fasting enable humans to survive for prolonged periods without food and involve molecular pathways that may drive life-prolonging effects of dietary restriction in model organisms. Mobilization of fatty acids and glycerol from adipocyte lipid stores by canonical neutral lipases, including the rate limiting adipose triglyceride lipase (Pnpla2/ATGL), is critical to the adaptive fasting response.

Gentrification and Integration
How should the injustices associated with the enduring segregation of Black Americans be addressed? In contemporary debates about racial justice, there are two broad answers to this question. “New integrationists” argue that integration is necessary for remedying racial inequalities. “Egalitarian pluralists” instead argue that we should promote strategies that seek to improve the material condition of Black Americans without integration.
Identification of novel genetic risk factors of dilated cardiomyopathy: from canine to human
Genome Medicine, Sep 2023 Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a life-threatening heart disease and a common cause of heart failure due to systolic dysfunction and subsequent left or biventricular dilatation. A significant number of cases have a genetic etiology; however, as a complex disease, the exact genetic risk factors are largely unknown, and many patients remain without a molecular diagnosis.

Enhanced transformer model for video caption generation
Abstract Automatic Video captioning system is a method of describing the content in a video by analysing its visual aspects with regard to space and time and producing a meaningful caption that explains the video. A decade of research in this area has resulted in a steep growth in the quality and appropriateness of the generated caption compared with the expected result. The research has been driven from the very basic method to most advanced transformer method.

The word “doctor” is derived from the Latin verb docere, to teach. Teaching is a key daily activity of pediatricians throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
Advantages of Widefield Optical Coherence Tomography in the Diagnosis of Retinopathy of Prematurity
Introduction Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) are widely used to evaluate patients with diseases of the macula and vitreoretinal interface. Over the last two decades, the diagnosis and management of both leading causes of blindness in adults (diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration) have incorporated OCT into the standard of care.

Histone H4 lysine 20 mono-methylation directly facilitates chromatin openness and promotes transcription of housekeeping genes - Nature Communications
Abstract Histone lysine methylations have primarily been linked to selective recruitment of reader or effector proteins that subsequently modify chromatin regions and mediate genome functions. Here, we describe a divergent role for histone H4 lysine 20 mono-methylation (H4K20me1) and demonstrate that it directly facilitates chromatin openness and accessibility by disrupting chromatin folding.
Effects of Prosthetic Socket Design on Residual Femur Motion Using Dynamic Stereo X-Ray - A Preliminary Analysis
Introduction Following lower-limb amputation, the secure mechanical linkage of a prosthesis to the residual limb is essential to optimize function and comfort (Söderberg et al., 2003; Papaioannou et al., 2010) and is a key determinant for increased stability for successful ambulation (Legro et al., 1999; Kahle and Highsmith, 2014).

Amputation-Site Soft-Tissue Restoration Using Adipose Stem... : Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Summary: Soft-tissue deficits in amputation stumps can lead to significant pain and disability. An emerging treatment option is stem cell–enriched fat grafting. This is the first study assessing the potential for this treatment modality in lower extremity amputation sites. In this prospective cohort study, five injured military personnel suffering from pain and limited function at amputation sites were recruited.
