There were puzzling scenes at a horse race in the UK this week when the judge called the wrong winner in a photo finish. An on-course official announced favourite Loving Glance the winner — before hastily changing his mind and correcting the result. The winner was in fact the 4-1 shot Albadr, who finished strongly under jockey Jim Crowley to win by a nose. But a photograph of the finish did nothing to clear up the result as an optical illusion left punters baffled.

Young jockey killed in freak accident

Natasha Galpin, 22, was thrown to the floor when the horse she was was working out for top trainer Iain Jardine suffered a serious injury. The talented young rider, who was also accomplished in eventing, lost her life in the accident on Tuesday morning at the Hetland Hill Stables in Scotland.

British horse racing has been hit by tragedy after a talented young jockey was killed in a freak accident while out on a training ride. Natasha Galpin, 22, was thrown to the ground when the horse she was working for top trainer Iain Jardine suffered a ruptured artery. Galpin, who was also accomplished in eventing, lost her life in the accident on Tuesday morning at the Hetland Hill Stables in Carrutherstown, Scotland. media_cameraNatasha Galpin was also regarded as an accomplished event rider.
