I stopped paying for Netflix after discovering these free legal streaming apps
Netflix was the first streaming service that I subscribed to, and the one that made me realize that we were entering a brave new world of on-demand entertainment, where an entire video rental store could be plucked from the ether. These services began piling up as more "essential" movies, shows, and documentaries came into the fold, and before long, my monthly streaming bill had ballooned to rival most cable packages.
I made Google Maps way more useful with just a few tricks
Regardless of whether you prefer Waze, Apple Maps, or Google Maps, we can all agree that these digital atlases have revolutionized travel. With that said, I have always favored Google Maps, as it offers several unique features aside from basic navigation that have become integral to life beyond my doorstep. Google's native mapping service is more than a wayfinding app, and I feel many of its benefits get overlooked.

YouTube TV raised its prices, and I'm ditching it for these better alternatives
YouTube TV has more than doubled in price since its 2017 launch. When it first hit our screens, it was expensive, at $35, but it offered a substantial array of movies, shows, and more. But now, YouTube TV costs $83 per month. It's time to hit the cancel button and move to these much cheaper YouTube TV alternatives.
Travel can facilitate healthy aging
The adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” may be true, but for seniors, enjoying that apple at a hotel or on a cruise may be even more healthy than having it at home. Travel can be an important component of healthy aging. Travel provides many benefits across multiple areas of life. According to The Senior List, around 70 percent of seniors (adults age 50 and up) travel regularly. Seniors are a target demographic for the travel industry, accounting for roughly one-third of all travelers.
Seniors can look to various foods to eat a more nutritious diet
The right foods and beverages fuel the body and provide the nutrients necessary to maintain health. But it’s worth noting that the foods a person enjoys during much of their life may not be ideal for them as they age. Dietary needs change as a person gets older. MedlinePlus says the best foods for older adults prioritize nutrient-dense, easy-to-chew foods that are gentle on digestion.
What are the warning signs of social isolation?
Human beings are wired for social connection, but millions of people confront isolation every day. Many of those people are seniors who lose contact with loved ones as time goes by. While temporary loneliness can be tolerated, prolonged isolation can be very harmful. Research by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine found roughly one-quarter of American adults age 65 and older live in isolation.
How I discovered my smart TV was spying on me
I love my smart TV. It's my portal to the undeniable and wonderful convenience of on-demand streaming services, where I can sit and imbibe the best from the world of entertainment. But after a while, it dawned on me that, like most other computers, my smart TV might not always have my best interests at heart. Smart TVs can and do collect data on you while you watch.
The importance of wellness exams after 50
Seniors are a growing and increasingly prosperous demographic. As the senior population increases, a greater emphasis must be placed on keeping aging individuals healthy. Wellness checks are important at any age, but they bear even more significance as individuals grow older. Age brings with it many things, including experience and wisdom. But age also brings an increased risk for health problems.

The link between sleep and healthy aging
A good night’s rest can be just what the body needs to feel revitalized and ready to tackle a new day. Indeed, rest is important for people of all ages, including seniors. The National Council on Aging notes the brain needs sleep to regulate the body, restore energy and repair damage. I wish I had this home cooking gadget when I was in college
My college years are a distant memory, but I do recall that my lifestyle left a lot to be desired. Healthy eating was the last thing on my mind as I subsisted on a diet of instant noodles and takeout deliveries, and I was left with a vague sense that I was always either hungry or broke. Fast-forward a couple of decades, and the cost-of-living crisis is in full swing.
