Falls lead to over 40 hospital admissions every day in Essex
More than *40 people in Essex are admitted to hospital every day following a fall, prompting local NHS leaders to encourage people to take simple steps to reduce their risk during Falls Prevention Week. Two-thirds of people admitted to hospital following a fall are aged over 75. Many of these falls can lead to serious and long-lasting impacts such as broken bones, head injuries and health complications. However, trips and falls do not have to be a natural part of getting older.

Volga, An Architecturally Significant & Truly Extraordinary Boutique Hotel In The Heart Of Mexico City
Mexico City is quickly becoming a go-to for the world’s art scene, food lovers and appreciators of all things metropolitan, chic and authentic. It blurs lines and dots T’s rather than crosses them. It breaks rules and makes memories in the same sharp breath then shoves a cold beer and taco in your hand to think it all through. In the mist of this beautiful madness, this curated chaos that sucks you deeper and deeper into the city that is CDMX, there is Volga, a boutique hotel that demands a review.
The pre-election period: 10 things every public sector communicator needs to know
The pre-election period is one of the most scrutinised and often misunderstood phases in public sector communications. For communications professionals working across the NHS, local government, emergency services and wider public bodies, it requires a careful balance between continuing to inform the public and maintaining strict political impartiality. At its heart, the pre-election period is not about stopping communications.

How volunteering with the CIPR enhanced my professional practice
After five years volunteering for the CIPR East Anglia committee including two as chair, I’ve decided it is time to step back. It is a strange feeling, marking the end of a chapter that has been both professionally rewarding and personally meaningful. Volunteering with the CIPR has been one of the most enriching experiences of my career, and as I prepare to hand over the baton, I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve learned along the way.
“Catch a bargain not a bug” with NHS jabs available on the high street this Black Friday

The country-wide vaccination drive kicks off this weekend with those eligible for their free flu jab being urged to get vaccinated now to get protected before the festive period – with the vaccine usually taking two weeks to be fully effective.
Reaching men with health messages: Five tips for effective communication
Each International Men’s Day reminds us that men’s health remains a communications challenge. Despite progress in awareness and access, men are still less likely than women to seek help early, attend check-ups, or engage with preventive health campaigns. This isn’t about indifference, it’s about relevance. Too often, the language, setting and tone of our messages fail to meet men where they are.

Can you be trusted? CIPR East Anglia tackles misinformation in the digital age
The question hung in the air of Corpus Christi college's historic McCrum lecture theatre as communicators filed into the packed auditorium. "Can you be trusted?" – the provocative title of CIPR East Anglia's latest conference – seemed to challenge every professional in the room. In an age where institutional credibility crumbles daily and misinformation spreads faster than fact, the question felt uncomfortably personal.
Why comms must be recognised as a strategic function in the public sector
For too long, communications in the public sector has been boxed in, frequently grouped under people and workforce functions. This may seem harmless on paper, but in practice it misrepresents the true role of professional communicators, risks diluting our influence, and undermines the strategic potential of the discipline. As someone working in NHS communications, I see daily how our profession is treated as both essential and misunderstood.

Why email still matters: making it work in public sector communications
In an era of social media, messaging apps and video content, it's easy to dismiss email as outdated. However, the data tells a different story – especially for public sector organisations like the NHS. Email remains one of the most effective channels for connecting with patients, staff and stakeholders.
First patient marks a milestone in advanced cancer treatment
A radiotherapy machine that is helping to transform cancer treatments has seen its first patient. Leslie Cast, 79, from St Lawrence, Maldon, was the very first person to receive his radiotherapy on the £3.5million machine, known as a LINAC. The LINAC, which joins three other machines in use at Southend Hospital, works by using beams of high-energy X-rays or electrons. It gives focussed radiation treatments to target and destroy cancer cells in nearly all types of cancer, anywhere in the body.

Reflecting on achieving CIPR Chartership: A personal journey
Having achieved my Chartership status with the CIPR at the end of May, I wanted to quickly jot down my thoughts and experiences while they are fresh in my mind. I hope this will support others considering this milestone in their professional journey. For a long time, I grappled with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Even up until the moment I was logging in for the assessment, I questioned whether Chartership was for me.

How has our politics changed under the Tories?
So how has our political system changed? Or perhaps another question, has it? Both Rishi Sunak and Kier Starmer have set themselves up as change candidates before the next general election, but what changes are they promising? And what changes have occured since the Tories came into government 13 long years ago. Sunak called for an end to the ‘30-year political status-quo’, which he committed to by bringing the former Prime Minister back into cabinet.

It’s also a time for self-reflection and evaluation.

Rishishuffle
Those immersed in politics, and even those with a vague interest in it probably were unable to escape the comments that have been made by, the now former, Home Secretary Suella Braverman. With Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s authority looking more and more threatened by his increasingly vocal (and right-wing) Home Secretary, on Monday morning he decided to start off his reshuffle by sacking her.

PUBLIC RELATIONS Wednesday 15th November 2023 A recent CIPR East Anglia event discussed the urgent need for inclusivity in today's evolving gender conversation… In our rapidly evolving world, the conversation around gender diversity is not just timely but also urgent. Who are the Liberal Democrats?
You have probably heard of the Liberal Democrats, Westminster’s third party, an option that is neither Conservative nor Labour. The party that spent five years in coalition with the still-in-power Conservatives, and who may be in Government again after the next election, although with Labour this time around. Last week they held their annual party conference in Bournemouth, the first in-person one since before the COVID-19 pandemic, as last year it was scuppered by the death of the Queen.
We left young people a terrible inheritance: a planet on fire (Guest Opinion by James Roger Sharp)
As a grandparent and parent, how can I explain how I, and others of my generation and before, failed to act to curb climate change that will inexorably lead to a greatly diminished life that I’ve enjoyed?
Chaotic conference, Tory edition
Last week it was the turn of the Liberal Democrats, this week the Conservative Party held their – far more publicised – party conference in Manchester. It was Rishi Sunak’s first as Prime Minister and party leader, and many think that it may also have been his last. The Conservative conference is far less democratic than that of the Lib Dems, and more attention is placed on the fringe speakers who inevitably pop up to cause trouble for the leadership.
