College band member dies after collapsing during Big Ten football game
A member of the Iowa Hawkeye marching band died this week after collapsing during Saturday’s football game against Northern Illinois. Derek Phillips, a mellophone player at Iowa, suffered a medical emergency shortly before the band was set to perform at halftime. Phillips “suffered sudden cardiac arrest,” a family member said in a social media post, according to ESPN.
