1 Introduction Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) is a gram-negative bacterium that causes black rot disease of brassicas. It has been described as the most important pathogen of Brassica oleracea (Vicente and Holub 2013; Williams 1980) and is distributed worldwide wherever Brassica crops are grown (CABI 2022). The species B. oleracea is morphologically diverse and includes vegetable morphotypes like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi and Brussels sprouts.
