7 of the Funniest Crime Novels Ever Written
Reading Lists These books prove that wanting to kill someone can be funny It’s not easy, getting people to laugh in the presence of murder. It’s also hard to cut a list down from fifty brilliant novels, and I’ll admit my picks are completely subjective—some for their humanity, some for consistency, some for their sheer originality. Everyone owes a debt to Elmore Leonard and Donald Westlake, who in turn owed a debt to Raymond Chandler and P.G. Wodehouse and Dorothy Parker. And what is funny, anyway?

I Used to Steal. Then Someone Stole From Me
Skip to content In December 2020, I contracted an unforgiving case of COVID-19. As soon as I tested positive, I was told to pack for two weeks and move to isolation. I did as directed, grabbing only essential items because of my sore body, fatigue and low oxygen levels. I just wanted to sleep. At that moment, I did not think a prison would endanger a person or their property. The scare of the pandemic had everyone on edge. I was assuming the institution was a part of the serve-and-protect community.
Should You Squat On Public Toilets? Experts Explain
Growing up in a Black household, I was taught that my butt should never grace the surface of a public toilet (if you know, you know). Even when I was a little girl, my mom made sure I knew to cautiously drape the commode with enough toilet paper so I wouldn’t feel even an inch of the germ-laden porcelain. I mean, it was serious business. And as an adult, squatting over a public toilet is practically second nature. When nature calls, I don’t even think twice about it.

Phylogenomic Analysis Supports the Transfer of 20 Pathovars from Xanthomonas campestris into Xanthomonas euvesicatoria
1. Introduction The genus Xanthomonas contains Gram-negative plant-associated bacteria, many of which are pathogens of crops, ornamentals, or other plants [1,2]. An important feature of Xanthomonas pathogen classification and nomenclature is the inclusion of infra-specific taxa known as pathovars, defined primarily on their host range. Washcloth, Loofah, Or Hands – What’s The Best Way To Wash Your Body?
Over the last couple of years, social media and the internet has uncovered the various ways people decide to wash their bodies (some surprising, I must admit, and some not.) There have been numerous debates on whether we should use washcloths, suds up our legs, or even shower on a daily basis. Side note: Did you know that bathing with hot water can be detrimental? Is Dating App Fatigue A Thing? A Dating Expert On How To Avoid Feeling Burned Out
In an attempt to have a hot girl summer, I found my way back to the dating apps. Sifting through the various profiles and sending screenshots to my friends seemed fun at first but quickly got overwhelming. The matches, the clever one-liners, and the need to keep up conversations with multiple men (especially after a long day at work) —it all became too much.

What is Whitewashing, Exactly — and Why Is It So Harmful?
Although it's fair to say that American society has taken some strides toward equality for oppressed communities, racism continues to rear its ugly head in many shapes and forms. One of those is known as whitewashing. Defined by Merriam Webster as "to alter (something) in a way that favors, features, or caters to white people," whitewashing typically involves eliminating or replacing Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) for their white counterparts on TV and film.

Can You Really Catch Up On Sleep?
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but sleeping in on Saturday only helps so much. Sure, you know the importance of a good night's rest (strengthened immune system, better mood, improved memory, the list goes on). But actually scoring the recommended seven to nine hours can often seem like a pipe dream, especially when binging Bridgeton into the wee hours of the a.m. feels so damn good.
Sunscreen for Dark Skin That Doesn't Leave a Cast
Confession: I can probably count the number of times I've used sunscreen as an adult on one hand. I could do without the awful smell, the stickiness, the possibility of it causing a breakout, and the godforsaken ashy cast that it leaves behind on my dark skin. While my mother made sure to keep a bottle of sunscreen in her bathroom cabinet, I hardly remember using sun protection as my cousins and I played in the hot, Florida sun, summer after summer.

Black-Owned Wellness Brands to Support Right Now — and for the Long Haul
In the vast world of wellness, it's no secret that women of color have often been overlooked. While this may seem obvious to some and not-so-much to others, proper representation has long been a struggle in the wellness community. To put it plainly, the wellness industry has been overwhelmingly white for far too long. And while some Black self-care queens (and kings!) have successfully created their own lane, it's time that they received the spotlight and support they rightfully deserve.
