Tumor-informed molecular residual disease in resected mucosal and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck
Abstract Patients with resected mucosal (HNSCC) or cutaneous (cSCC) squamous carcinomas of the head and neck undergo adjuvant therapy based on clinicopathologic prognosticators. Most patients are overtreated or undertreated, with substantial morbidity from locoregional recurrences and locoregional therapies. It is unknown whether postoperative ctDNA molecular residual disease (MRD) testing could improve patient selection.
Managing Pain and Opioid Use in Complex Head and Neck Cancer Surgery
A new clinical trial will soon be underway at Cleveland Clinic to examine the effects of a perioperative, multimodal, non-opioid analgesia regimen in head and neck cancer patients. The goal is to effectively manage and standardize pain control throughout the perioperative period for a population undergoing among the most complex head and neck surgeries – namely, those with microvascular free flap reconstruction. Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit academic medical center.
Can We Deintensify Treatment for Patients With Lower Risk HPV-Related Oropharyngeal Cancer?
Primary surgical resection or definitive radiation therapy (RT) are both viable treatment options for oropharyngeal cancer (OPC). Chemotherapy is added to either definitive RT (in the absence of surgery) or combined with RT in the adjuvant setting (following resection in the presence of high risk pathologic features). Role of Treatment Deintensification in the Management of p16+ Oropharyngeal Cancer: ASCO Provisional Clinical Opinion
ASCO has established a rigorous, evidence-based approach—the provisional clinical opinion (PCO)—to offer a rapid response to emerging data in clinical oncology. The PCO is intended to offer timely clinical direction to ASCO’s oncologists after publication or presentation of potentially practice-changing data from major studies. This PCO addresses the rationale for and evidence supporting treatment deintensification in the management of p16+ oropharyngeal cancer (OPC).
