GILGIT: Snowfall at Spantik Peak on Sunday halted efforts to retrieve the body of Pakistani climber Dr Asma Mushtaq, who died while descending the 7,027m peak in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Shigar district. Dr Mushtaq died at age 34 at an altitude of around 6,250 metres on Thursday while descending from the summit of Spantik — also known as Golden Peak — after suffering from high-altitude sickness. Her body is currently at Camp 3.

GILGIT: Pakistan Customs collected Rs15 billion in revenue on imports from China through the Khunjerab Pass during the fiscal year 2025-26, breaking the previous record, while goods worth Rs2.8bn were exported to China and Central Asian countries through the border crossing. Wajid Ali, Pakistan Customs Collector Gilgit-Baltistan, told Dawn that Rs14.93bn in revenue was collected on imports through the Khunjerab Pass at the Sost Dry Port during FY26.

Sarah Mallory Geis GILGIT: The body of missing US climber Sarah Mallory Geis was recovered from Broad Peak (8,047 metres) on Friday, 22 days after she went missing in a deadly avalanche, while a separate team was dispatched to retrieve the body of Pakistani climber Dr Asma Mushtaq from Spantik Peak.
