3.1 Sea Ice Freezing and Melting To quantify the magnitude of the sea ice freeze and melt cycle in the models, we have integrated the annual Antarctic sea ice freshwater flux due to melting (red) and freezing (blue) from 1979 to 2014 (Figure 1). In addition, we rank the models from left to right based on the magnitude of the combined freeze and melt flux from high to low. Clearly, there is a notable variation in sea ice freshwater flux in different models (Figure 1).
